Civil Aviation Glossary

Wed Feb 01, 2006 7:17 am

Does anyone here know where I can access an civil aviation glossary? I need to define some terms that seem to be second nature to everyone else here. I would like to find the definitions of such terms as "CASM" and "O & D." I know what they mean, but I need to get their definitions from a reputable web page. I tried the DOT home page, Wikpedia (which did define "CASM," but not O & D) and dictionary.com, but no luck. Is there a website devoted to these kinds of things? Thanks...

One thing bugs me, check out these threads.
An Idea: A.net Dictionary (by Ntspelich Apr 23 2005 in Site Related) Can We Create A Glossary? Please?! (by GusNYC Nov 8 2005 in Site Related) How's The Airliners.net Glossary Going? (by DC-10 Levo Mar 9 2003 in Site Related) RE: A Tech Dictionary On Airliners.net (by AeroWesty Jan 15 2006 in Site Related)

And now this one. There is definently a need for a glossary, and there are people (myself included) who are willing to do this, but nobody from the site will give us the go-ahead. I know exactly what ya mean ZChannel.

By the way, CASM = Cost per Available Seat Mile

Quoting ZChannel (Thread starter):

Here are some but not the ones you look for:
http://www.gps.tc.faa.gov/glossary.html
http://www.gofir.com/aviation_abbreviations.htm

but that one should do:
