Wow... a 744 in IND. Sweet. If I lived there, I'd be very excited about this.

Will they have the rights to carry cargo from IND-LAX (i.e. loaded at IND for transport to LAX), or is that sort of like how they deal with passenger flights by foreign carriers that touch two U.S. cities (e.g. 'NO')?

I'll have to make a mental note to drive down to IND on the 10th to take a few pics. Is this Friday only service?

The flight is meant to be for Chicago area cargo, however due congestion and restriction on scheduling of daytime in the middle of the day at ORD, Indianapolis was instead chosen.

Might be a good idea to chose IND as alternative airport for cargo into the Chicago area, trucking shouldn't take too long. Yet, I don't quite understand why they didn't chose MKE instead. It's already used by major cargo carriers and I suppose it should not be too difficult to accomodate another 747 there.
Excess baggage? Oh come on...

If you are looking for a destination airport for cargo there really isn't one better than IND. Its not that there is anything special about the airport itself but rather the number of escape routes. If you are wanting to transfer cargo trucks you can get out on I-65, I-69, I-70 and I-74 in just about every direction in almost no time. It is a prime distribution point. It is probably why Plainfield, IN which neighbors the airport has seen incredible growth in bulk storage over the past 5 to 10 years.

I don't know what Cargolux will carry but if you are brining in freight to distribute then you are 6 hours or less from St. Louis, Chicago, Detroit, Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland and Louisville. And its barely 6 hours to Nashville. That gives you incredible coverage in a very short time.

I can imagine that they have some contracts of bigger forwarders on the flight for local IND imports. and also some contracted cargo for exports.

If the flight is for Chicago area cargo, I would have thought they may have chosen RFD. UPS seems to like RFD. 10000+ ft runway.....

Is anyone sure it's not some sort of contract feeder flight for FedEx at their Indy hub? A big once per week shipment into Indy to be sorted and sent outbound on FedEx?
Direct KNOBS, maintain 2700' until established on the localizer, cleared ILS runway 26 left approach.

Does RFD have customs along with independent warehouse facilities??

First time I hear that... this would mean a split of the ORD ops into a day 1 and 3 LUX-ORD service and a day 5 LUX-IND. Hard to imagine without a local IND business.

This would be cabotage traffic and is not permitted.
