Some Quick Northwest Airlines Questions

Thu Feb 02, 2006 10:36 pm

I am flying NWA tomorrow and I have two short questions:

1. Do you have to pay for alcohol onboard (in Eco Class)? I just looked on their website but only found info about food. If yes, how much is a beer and a booze? I am flying together with a friend so I think that we will drink a few beers on the long flight.  Wink

2. Which gates is NWA usually using at AMS? On the flight information page I could already see my arrival gate at DTW but not my departure gate at AMS.

Thanks in advance for answers!

Booze is still free on trans-Atlantic flights in economy.

Your departure gate to AMS will ether be in the A concorse area or all the way down in the B concorse between gate 36 and 41. If it is at the ends of both concorses, just hop on the tram and it will take you their in about 2 to 3 minutes. They put all international flights on the ends of the concorses because that area has the largest area for the widebodies.. You can check with NWA.Com and pull up your flight. It might show later today if you have time.

Good Luck and have a nice flight...

Liquor is free in trans-Atlantic economy?!?! Geez, we'll drink them dry...  Smile But personally, I find this difficult to believe. 200+ passengers with free liquor? Get real.  Smile

Domestic flights is $5/drink economy, free in F, if I remember correctly.

I'm not completely sure if you're joking or not from this comment!? Alcohol is free in economy on most European airlines on shorthaul and longhaul flights, and several US airlines on longhaul flights. It's been that way for a long time, although recently a few have stopped it for cost reasons.

The 200+ passengers with free drinks doesn't seem to be a problem though usually!  Smile

It's one of them E gates in AMS that NW flights depart for the USA.

Booze is free, many times they give out 2 small bottles at once  Wink However, I do not know if they do it with beer too, but with JD it was the case many times for this NW Plat  Wink

The last trans-Atlantic flight I took was a MIA-LGW non-stop on DL (OK, 12 years ago!), and drinks weren't free outside of F. I'll ask around work today, and see who's taken a recent trans-Atlantic flight.

Drinks are free with a limit on them in Coach class. I think their is a limit of 3 or 4 drinks after that you have to start paying for them. Have a good flight Patrick....

Not true, they will cut you off if you get drunk though they do not charge for the drinks.

In the words of an acquaintance, who used to fly those murderous 18 hour flights... "never fly a flight that you can get drunk, sober, drunk, and sober, before landing".  Smile

The European way of doing this is great - free drinks on BA even on a 35min shuttle flight LHR-MAN  Smile

There was a post recently here where someone listed the airlines that still have free drinks in Y - there are quite a lot. On transatlantic flights I usually only fly with BA, VS or CO - BA and VS do, but CO charge $5.

Does anyone know if the drinks on BA are free transatlantic? Also is there a limit? I'll be flying them in a month or so. Thanks

Yes BA is free, I never have been cut off by them though I have not pushed my drinking.
