NWA 747/330 Scheduled Domestic Flights?

Thu Feb 02, 2006 11:16 pm

Thought it would be nice to break up my string of DC9/757 flights on NWA, and fly a wide-body, just for the heck of it (if it works out).

Searched the threads, but didn't find any great data. Does anyone know of any scheduled domestic legs, for 747s/330s?

Thanks!

That simply stinks. I am *so* tired of DC9s, 757s, A319s, and RJs...

Guess I have to wait for my next trans-Atlantic flight.

But thanks for the info!

Nope None. Unless you are going over either ocean you are not going to fly on a NW widebody... Sorry guy

There is one domestic widebody although its to Hawaii. Its NW99 from MSP-HNL and it is operated by a DC-10-30.

DC-10 to PHX Occasionally? Hmmm, try 4x a day (ie, usually winter would include 3x per day to MSP and 1x per day to DTW) for 8 or so months of the year... OCCASIONALLY we would have those flights substituted for the 747. In the winter of 2000, this occasional 747 was usually once per day during the winter and spring months.

You might get lucky and look for a one way NW 747 flight from DTW/MSP to Marana! Big grin

The topic title lists 330's and I was on a 330 from MSP to LGA a few years ago IIRC. Must have been a fluke?

they also flew it from MSP to MEM too back from 2000-2002. I flew it in '01 and '02

that was probably a 320. 330's are widebodies, and have never been used for domestic service on NW

NW used to run the big stuff between DTW and MSP. 744's, 742's, DC-10's, you name it.

When the first NW 747-400 arrived, it was initially deployed on daily runs MSP-PHX

The best multi-stop NW 747 domestic was daily JFK-IAD-ORD-ANC continuing to NRT-OKA-MNL

Any other NW 747 domestics in the past??

NW use to run the 747-400 between DTW and MSP every night roughly around 5:00 PM departure bank of flights. Also this was when the plane was first introduced and back when NW offered 3 classes of service Internationally. Now the fun thing about these flights were that the business class section was sold as coach so I had many a flight in the upper deck for a song.

After 9/11, most airlines ceased domestic widebody flights. I believe the only time NW will fly a widebody domestically is when it is subbed for another aircraft due to a scheduling issue, broken equipment, or some other rare scenario. Nicksair has told me that NW has flown a DC-10-30 LAX-DTW a few times for this reason.

If you were on a 330 from MSP to LGA a few years ago, then it certainly wasn't Northwest! They only started operating them recently, maybe a year ago? I don't know of any airline ever using a 330 on that route.

NW operated a DC-10-40 MSP-MKE-MSP up until 2002 or 2003... definitely after 9/11. IIRC, it was for overnight m/x and due to a lack of widebody parking in MSP, but the service was nevertheless there.

LGA and a wide body? Who is smoking what? Next are they going to tell us they were on a NWA DC-10 into LGA? I don't think so. Or do they mean LGW? Gatwick (LGW) is a possible. La Guardia (LGA) not at all likely.

NW has only operated the A330 since 2003 and LGA has never had an A330 visit the airport. You clearly DON'T know what an A330 is.

All of NW's DC-10-40s (the "domestic" DC-10s) have been retired for a few years. Yet the DC-9s are still crossing the sky daily...

Oh no, somebody just HAD to say the N word again...please pick a number other than the one that comes after Eight and before Ten that doesn't have a prefix of DC-.

And I just flew on a NW A330 a few days ago, SFO-NRT. Sat right in the back. Best seat in the house, unless if you get World Business Class and the built in massage in those seats...yeah...mmmmmm...zzzzzzzzz...

I cant find any records of my trip at this point. It was a business trip so I probably sent everything into my employer's records department once I got back. I also don't have any pictures, probably because I wasn't even into planes at that point (sad but true). However, the year is off by one (late 2002) and for some reason I was thinking it was MSP to LGA (could be wrong on that though). If I'm wrong, so be it.

The main things I remember about that trip are the odd noises the plane made when braking and the super-bad seat pitch of NW. Since then I've avoided both. I prefer seat pitch that doesn't cut-off my blood supply and planes that don't make really loud noises when they brake. I'm not trying to say Airbus makes bad planes or that NW is a bad company. I'm just going with my own personal preferences like anyone else would.

Huh? AA, National and others flew DC-10's into LGA, and Delta flew L1011's and still flies 767's there AFAIK.

NWA never flew a DC-10 to LGA (and I don't think anybody flies A330's there), but there are plenty of widebodies at LGA.

DL operates 767s into LGA (even the -400ER) but some of those are bound to go soon.
