Routes For DL's EMB-170s Out Of SLC?

Fri Feb 03, 2006 7:25 am

I'm not sure if this has been asked before, tried to do a search but didn't find it. I have 2 questions:

1.) Which regional carriers is operating the EMB-170s for DL out of SLC? It's ASA, correct?

2.) Which routes are the EMB-170s currently flying out of SLC?

Reason I'm asking is that I booked an ASA CRJ-700 flight from SLC-LAS and I'm praying for that one in a million that one of the new EMB-170s will get sub'd on that flight. Slim chance I know.. but hey, no harm in hoping!  Smile

1) Shuttle America, part of Chautauqua.

2) SLC-CMH, SLC-JFK (via CMH), SLC-IND, SLC-CLE, SLC-DTW are the only ones I can think of. There are probably more.

Each of the following have EMB-170 flights on Delta/Shuttle America from SLC

SLC-BNA (1x)
SLC-PSC (2x) (+3x CRJ)
SLC-DTW (2x)
SLC-CLE (2x)
SLC-IND (2x)
SLC-CMH (2x)

I thought I remember reading somewhere that MEM was getting one, but I may be wrong.

We flew Memphis the end of last year and January twice a day from SLC. However, we have not operated those flights since the end of January. I'm not sure if it went to another DCI carrier or if it was discontinued completely.

I know I keep saying this but... DL really needs to upgrade CLE-SLC. I dunno about the other stations but all our flights are packed and we regularly have to kick bags/pax off. A 737 would surely make money.

Problem is that the next plane size DL could upgrade to would be the 738 which has 150 seats....more than twice the capacity of the EMB170.

Even if your CLE-SLC has a 100% LF on an EMB170 that would translate to less than a 50% LF on the 738. If anything, DL could add a third frequency connecting to a different bank of flights.

what happened to the E70 RDU-SLC flight? Was it substitute with the 738 RDU-LAX flight? Aren't the RDU-SLC flights usually at least at 80% capacity if not more?

Isn't MD-90 capacity wise close to a 737-800? And I think Delta avoids sending MD-88s to SLC. However, they still have 737-200s and 737-300s, although i think 737-200s are left out of SLC as well, but both of those have range to make it, and are smaller than a 737-800.

Glad to hear that some of these flights out of SLC seem to have good loads. DL has done a good job of building up SLC in the past couple of years. Good to see a legacy expanding out west!

As PIT has fewer and fewer choices to the western US as time goes on, it wouldn't hurt Delta to run 2x E70 to PIT either.

DTW-SLC is very hit or miss on the E-170's. Sometimes is completely full, other times there will only be about 20 people on board. Traffic has picked up now that its hitting the busy part of ski season. Nov & Dec was very light on this route.

I dont tihnk so, PSC only gets 4XCRJ from SLC. Used to get 2X737-300 and 4XCRJ, but they cut back in December.

Maybe you meant PSP? They get em!

MEM is now operated 1x daily on a CR7 operated by ASA

RDU-SLC is indeed, as mentioned by OOer, now a daily 738 (mainline)

Sorry.. I should clarify. RDU-SLC has always been daily 738 since inception. The running rumor was that an additional E70 flight was to be added. I was wondering if it was still a possibility or if the LAX flight dissolved the need for the additional capacity.

How does the flight do anyway?

So does this mean the 737's will not be coming back to PSC? It was usually the reason why I flew Delta...

Check the new February Timetable - it shows twice daily on the E70, and 4x additionally on the CRJ.

Unfortunately PSC and GEG have both lost mainline again. These cities lost mainline, got it back for 2005, and now seem to have lost it again as DL has accelerated the retirement of planes, and reallocated 738s to more transcon and international routes. Would be nice to see mainline return to these cities for 1-2x daily - DL seems to have established a nice niche in Eastern Washington. Would be cool to see them add YKM too!

There will not be E-170's coming to DEN anytime soon. That would be a complete waste of the aircraft's capabilities. DL/S5 will continue to deploy the E-170's on the longer / thin routes primarily to the Midwest & Southeast from SLC that cannot be effectively served with a CR7 or a 738. Plus DL will need 2 E-170 aircraft for the soon to be launched LGA-ORD & LGA-DFW service.

Yeah, some flights are okay...but I'd say the majority of our flights are full or near full. It's very tough to non-rev out to SLC anymore, but hey if it works and you see enough seats open...

Another frequency would certainly help. The morning flight always has at least a few bags come off and pax sent through ATL. Lucky for them both flights leave about the same time from adjacent gates... although it's still a pain.

How about exactly the same? Both the MD-90 and 738 seat 150 people.

Quoting N1120A (Reply 25):

Only the 733 would be a viable option, and at 128 seats, also has over 50 seats more then the E70. The M88 at 142 seats is even larger, and the 732 at 100 seats can't make it on that route.

The aircraft data section here says the M88's range is 2620 nm & the M90's range is 2085nm. CMH-SLC is 1528 mi. & CLE-SLC is 1565 mi.

I don't know about CLE, but probably not for CMH, merely due to the fact that it's so much easier to schedule the 170s from CMH, as they are based here. I think a 733 could work on the morning departure, but it looks like DL would rather keep them on higher density routes west of the Mississippi. For a while they were sending the 733 to DTW, but as we all know they were swapped for the E170s. It's really up to Delta of course, but I can't really see a mainline upgrade to SLC in the near future.

You wont see a 733 Delta is getting rid of them. 732s probably cant make it that far. The thing I am suprised is that CMH-CVG isnt upgraded to a 170. It was all connection in Feb. March i see a 732 is back on it, Miss those 757s on that route. I fly the 145s for Chautauqua I'm supprised seems like Shuttle America is adding a lot of routes. Anyone know if the 170s are in CVG anymore?

Thanks

Me too...CMH-CVG was always fun on the 757. The last time I took it, we were climbing & were just South of CMH when we "started descent".  Silly I wish we still had at least 1 757 flight into CMH. They're a lot more comfortable than the M88 to ATL, IMO.
