United Express To Add BOI-LAX 2 Nonstops

Fri Feb 03, 2006 1:39 pm

I was looking through www.united.com, and saw that United Express/SkyWest will commence two nonstop flights between Boise and Los Angeles. They will apparently fly the 50 pax CRJ.
With these two new flights, United will offer 4 mainline flights (1 ORD, 3 DEN, and 10 UA Express flights.
Last week I heard someone ( a UA employee) mention LA flights, so I started looking it up.
Here is the preliminary schedule according to their site.

BOI-LAX
UA6538 lv 10:56AM ar 11:55am
UA6539 lv 7:29pm ar 8:28pm

LAX-BOI
UA6536 lv 8:05am ar 11:04am
UA6537 lv 3:59pm ar 6:58pm

These, along with Horizon Air's two flights, will for the first time, BOI will have two carriers offering nonstop LAX flights.

Here is QX's schedule as of May 5th.
BOI-LAX
lv 6:10am ar 7:40am
lv 6:50pm ar 8:20pm
LAX-BOI
lv 8:10am ar 11:30am
lv 8:40pm ar 11:59pm

So this will give the choice of deHavilland DASH 8-400s or CRJs on nonstop flights.

Is anyone going to add more GEG-LAX non-stop flights or will they mainly connect in BOI? Robert NWDC10

Looks as if AS' 1 nonstop will be it.
I guess everyone is happy funneling pax thru SEA or PDX.
I was amazed to see sometime ago that UA ended their nonstops to SFO.
Is there not that much traffic at GEG? I would think there would be, but by flights, maybe not.

The Q400 is actually the nicer airplane, though United is the larger carrier. Looks like UA is finally trying to get a piece of what QX has been exploiting for a while, underserved small markets to LAX.

The CRJ is a noticeably shorter flight too.

20 minutes is not all that much shorter, particularly when you consider that you have 7 more inches of pitch on the Q400

Where did you get the 7in more figure from? Seatguru says the Q400 has 31-32.0" pitch and the CRJ has 31.0" pitch.

GEG would make a great little hub for someone if they wanted too. Pretty sad flying most pax's to SEA or PDX for connections. I would love to see a non-stop GEG-YVR. Robert NWDC10

I have read in a few places that they have a 38" pitch. Strange.

They used to have 34" pitch, then they added extra seats and now it's down to 32"-ish pitch. Still a comfortable ride, though.

So when is United Express going to go head to take more of NW's market in the upper midwest and plains. UA used to serve places like CWA with 6 flights a day. Now its down to 3 or something. NW on the otherhand is at 14 total arrivals and departures to MSP and DTW. UA could do small midwest station to SFO and make a nice little bit of cash.

Ah, that is too bad. I guess they still give the free beer so people can conk out.

They did, but 25 years ago.  Wink

Probably not enough o & d on this route. Unless you had ACJazz w/ a dh8-300. But even that would be too big.
I remember when GEG was little more than a tech stop on Frontier's DEN-GEG-YVR routes, and Hughes Airwest to YYC, and UA's old DEN-GEG-YYC routings.

I was honestly not expecting this route to happen. Although this could be bad news for both carriers. Time will tell how this route serves.
