Mesaba Files 1113c Motion To Void Labor Contracts

Sat Feb 04, 2006 1:18 pm

Mesaba filed 1113c motions today to void labor agreements with their pilots, flight attendants and mechanics. Motion will be heard in court on 2/24, court will have 30 days to make ruling. Here's a link to the filing:

http://www.mesaba-restructuring.com/...0-B5E9-4E33-BCFB-6CC316537C2B}.PDF

Mesaba did reach agreement with TWU, therefore is not a part of this motion. The filing also states that Mesaba will return the 2 CRJ's currently in the fleet if they are not selected for the current RFP for CRJ flying.

Interesting reading... Good luck to all at Mesaba....

Does Mesaba only have those 2 CRJs left? I don't understand how they could possibly be in business if they only have two aircraft...?

I really feel for the Mesaba employees and the company as a whole...threw all their eggs in one basket, and the basket shafted them...

I believe there are still 24 RJ85's flying, all to be removed from fleet by end of 2006. The 2 CRJ's were the only two delivered before NW filed CH11. Without winning the RFP for Pinnacle's CRJ flying, they'll be down to 49 SF340's. That's a whole lot of jobs on the line.

XJ brought a lot of this on there self with the arrogance from the company and a horrid operation. There is also a rumor going around that the Saabs will be next to be put up for bid.

Mesaba and NW has had a bad relationship the past few years. This is what happens when you bite the hand that feeds you. Oh, but wait, Spanjers and the other management cronies will get to share a 2 million dollar bonus this year....nice.

From another article:

http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/business/13788425.htm

Meanwhile, half of Mesaba's 850 pilots will be laid off in the near future, he said.
Mesaba's current business plan, Wychor added, envisions it flying just 49 34-seat Saab aircraft.
"If the judge allows the company to reject our contract and impose an agreement that looks like the one we're talking about today, we will strike," Wychor vowed.
Under the company proposal, newly hired pilots wouldn't make much more than $10,000 a year after paying for medical insurance

I love that Wychor (ALPA head for Mesaba) says that half of current pilots will be furloughed, and complains that new hires will not take home much after paying for insurance. If half the pilots are furloughed, they won't be hiring!

Nlink, you sure you are not confusing Mesaba with Pinnacle? When I read about operational issues and NW Airlink, it's almost always pointing at Pinnacle.

They have to get their costs way down so that NWA doesn't defect.

It will be interesting to see what happens to pilot pay at Comair. Delta can't afford Comair anymore as Comair pilots enjoy some of the highest payrates in the business.
Tired of airline bankruptcies....EA/PA/TW and finally DL.

Not just Comair, but any regional airline will feel the effects of this if Mesaba is successful. Next time any contract comes up, the "Mesaba solution" would be the standard used.

Unbelievable, That is ridiculous. I can make more working part time at McDonald's. What is XJ and NWA become, just one big mess. Very sad indeed!!

Sadly, I really think Mesaba is using NWA as the example of how to negotiate. Sad!

Here's the latest... Mesaba plans to cut 1600 jobs as par of the bankruptcy process:

10K a year is ridiculous. I made more than that as a night crew shelf stocker at a grocery store. You can't even live on that, hell you can barely eat on that.

Remind me to tell all the people in America not to apply for these shameful jobs. The labor market ought to be ashamed of itself!

Well, all you folks on this forum who are always bitching about pilots being paid too much and would kill just to have a flying job at all, here's your chance to put your money where your mouths are!

You may be right. The biggest problem I see for Mesaba is that the rank and file pilots and FA's have nothing to lose by shutting the airline down. Roughly half the pilots, and well over half the FA's will lose their jobs if the company winds up as a 49 saab fleet. But the RJ85 doesn't completely leave the fleet until later this year. So those folks will be around to vote no, or to reject any agreement imposed. And NW has yet to affirm that Mesaba will be the chosen flyer of the Saabs. I suspect that after NW chooses an airline to fly the CRJ, that the Saab flying will be put out to bid. You know Colgan is waiting to bid....

Too bad to see a once great airline go down the crapper. When I flew for them (but not for 10k a year!) back in the late 90's it was THE place to work. Too bad.

Back in the good old Bryan Bedford days huh? Before he got pushed out and all the NW retread management came in.... What he did at Republic could have been Mesaba....
