DL LAX-MSY?

Sat Feb 04, 2006 4:14 pm

Will maybe since DL is slightly expanding at LAX, will they step in and fill the void lift by WN on LAX-MSY? They could probably fill a 732/733, 738 or MD-88/90, I don't know about a 752 yet  wink  Tell me what you guys think  Smile

Can a 732 make it to MSY from LAX?

Maybe, but MSY-LAX might be a problem with the headwinds. The route would probably be flown with a 738, expecially since the 732's are on the way out. But I think DL could make a go of it.

In the old days, they (DL) used to run a daily L10 and even a 722 on it and it seemed to work. They could probably pull-off a 738 daily. Isn't UA on that route besides WN?

Well, their 732s are -15 powered Advanced models which should have decent range. MSY-LAX would be at the end of that range, but a 733 or MD-90 would have no problem whatsoever, unless 10/28 gets shut down again

Actually, WN has not returned to the MSY-LAX route while UA has restored 1 of their 3 flights

UA is only running one daily nonstop. They had two (sometimes three) daily before Katrina. I have heard that they do not have any plans on adding the 2nd flight.

With WN's reluctance to add long haul service from MSY, I think DL could fill that void and fill the planes with ease.

And yes, DL flew MSY-LAX for a very long time. Most of the flights during the 70's and 80's were flown with L10's.

MSYtristar-
I can even remember National running in the 70's a DC-10 SAN-LAX-MSY, on to either TPA or MIA.

Yes those were the days weren't they? Sadly, long gone.

One thing about LAX-MSY is that it has always been a proven route. No matter what time of year or day of the week, you can count on that airplane being full. I think it's only a matter of time before DL (or AA) sees the oppurtunity and takes advantage of it.

Actually, I liked it the old way with UA running 2-3 flights and WN with their's.

Me too  Smile Everytime I flew to MSY to visit family I could fly UA with their A32X/752 or WN with their 737Classics.

Does DL have any aircraft based/stationed in LAX?
