Russia - How To Book Domestic Flights And Trains

Mon Feb 06, 2006 6:41 pm

Hi all,

planning to visit Moscow from March 1-5, I would like to add a short trip to another city (can but doesn't have to be LED).

Does anyone know a reliable Russian travel agency offering online-bookings in English language?

Also, can you book train tickets to St. Petersburg online, and what's the price for a 2-bed compartment in a night train? Can anybody share his or her experiences?

Regarding flights, are there any "very cheap ones" from Moscow?

Thanks
Sven

Whoa... you have some demands! For rail travel, the best thing is to go to the central railway office, preferrably along with someone who speaks russian (otherwise they'll rip you off). The address is: Maly Kharitonyevskiy per. 6/11. It's not far from the Chistye Prudy subway station on the red line. Telephone number: 266-8333 (only Russian of course).

Sheremetyevo 2 airport has a ticket office for both air and railway tickets in the left wing of the arrivals hall, near the exit, under the "VIP service" sign. Telephone number is 578-8145, open from 9:00 to 20:00, 7 days a week.

I looked around on Google, didn't find any online booking services. Hell, even SU's international site barely has online booking..

Good luck!

Thanks!
What I have found so far is www.infinity.ru where you can book flights online, but unfortunately you cannot look for trains.
Best wishes

Considering how lots of traintickets are still issed in russia, I don't think there is a possibility to book trains online. Additionally, infinity.ru seems to only have the largest russian airlines availale, which severely limits the amount of possible destinations.

The best thing would be to book either with a russian travle agent in germany or buy the tickets in russia.

I've been looking on Infinity.ru and they quote everything in convertable units. How do I get Russian rubles or whatever?

Just had the same problem with Infinity, and emailed them about it.
Their rate is 33 rubles to 1 c.u.
They are a good travel agency though, and most of their staff speak good english and are really helpful.

Sven,

Have been trying to work out a trip like this for a while, what i found out was that Pulkovo has a good website in english and flies 134's & 154's between Moscow & LED as do Aeroflot.
Confirmed tickets can be bought for £44.00 single approx 60 eurothingys..on the Pulkovo website and any Aeroflot tkt desk should be able to sell you a ticket for the same price.

p.s. Great start to the season with an Li-2 flight.

I have used Infinity many times and never had any problems. You can also book flights on Expedia, etc. For train travel you will need to go to a central train booking office probably as this is the least hassle. There is one near the Belarusskaya Train Station also that has electronic kiosks (in Russian only). American Express can book any mode of transport, usually for a 10% extra fee if you are desperate or try these:

http://www.avantix.ru- owned by Aeroflot, can book Air/Train tickets online securely, but now only in Russian.
