Lufthansa To Add Dublin From Munich And Hamburg

Mon Feb 06, 2006 7:47 pm

Lufthansa have see significant growth of their Irish business. 2005 boardings are up 17% on 2004 (carrying 178,000 people). An amazing 80% of all Irish traffic is transfer, with strong demand from long haul routes to Asia.

Bouyed by such a successful growth, LH plan to invest further in irish traffic, and will shortly announce a new MUC DUB route to enable further transfer opportunities, alongside enabling O&D traffic to the southern city. 2007 should see a DUB HAM service.

Nothing on www.amadeus.net yet, do you have more information about frequency, and when will those flights exactly begin ?
Exceptions confirm the rule.

I'm just going from a newspaper article - no dates given.

I think two daily CR1/7 services between Munich and Dublin.

If transfer traffic is the main source of pax from Ireland then surely adding HAM and to a lesser extent MUC is slightly odd - can't imagine many people transit through HAM at least

Who said " HAM and to a lesser extent MUC" ? The MUC route is supposed to be added earlier, that alone contradicts your view of the issue.

apologies for not being clear, I meant that if transfer pax are the main source (80%) of the Irish - originating passengers, then I can understand, to some extent, why MUC would be added given that LH do fly L/H from MUC. On the other hand, I can see very few people transitting at HAM since there is really no where to go which can't be reached direct from DUB.

Hope that makes more sense
