Air Tahiti Nui In YVR Today?

Tue Feb 07, 2006 12:43 pm

A buddy of mine says he saw an Air Tahiti Nui A340 in YVR today. It came in from the NE and departed later out over the Pacific. Could it have been a test flight for the rumored CDG-YVR-Tahiti??
Anyone know anything more??

Military charter from MLH-YVR-PPT-NOU

Couldn't go via the USA because of the arms they had with them, so YVR was the best option.

Well, the plans of transferring the flight from LAX to YVR are still on! The reason it takes so much time is the amount of permits needed and papers to fill out.

Including renegotiating the ASA with Canada. At the moment metropolitan France - Canada routes are limited to Toronto and Montreal (I think YVR-PPT is too, but not YVR-PAR). AC would like access to more internal points in France, but the French would prefer not to allow this. This could drag on for years ...

Here seen touching down in BSL/MLH inbound from Paris CDG. It left, like reported, to Vancouver-Papeete and Noumea with French military staff later.

YVR-PPT on Air Tahiti Nui would be excellent! So, what's going on? Why is there such an influx of South Pacific airlines to serve YVR? First QF, now possibly Air Tahiti Nui. Who's next? ANZ with 777-200ER's?

AlexInWa,

QF did serve YVR with 767 service via HNL. They used to code with Canadian Airlines, but when they were bought out by Air Canada, QANTAS used their own metal all to YVR. It didn't last long, though.

QANTAS is making a return to Vancouver this summer, with 747 service via SFO.

Add some heat to UA on the SYD-SFO run huh? All of a sudden SFO has gotten popular. NZ with the almost daily 777, UA with the daily 744, and now QF!!! How often will the QF flight be and will they all continue to YVR?

QF has the heart to work Canada, but the mind and pocket book are weak! They have tried over & over again, only to pull out. Once a prominant role in the ticket landscape at YVR, they soon become a discarded bag tag. Not really sure why QF doesn't work. Excellent competition to Air Canada, but perhaps the transfer traffic is not economical for Qantas with Air Canada running the show.

It would be nice to see more South Pacific metal flying from YVR! Air Canada is quite happy with Asia/HNL/SYD, so lets get in some regular service to Tahiti & Auckland with Air New Zealand. Heck, their both Star Alliance, Air Canada can even code share...

Side bar: not sure about traffic rights and all the stuff, but I would certaily take a run on that flight given the opportunity!!!!

NZ are already palnning to re-enter the candian market in 2007 with T7 aircraft services operating from AKL, with a codeshare with AC, more info to come late half of 2006, on times, prices, etc..

The more direct non stop services from YVR to SW Pacific the better...

We don't want to touch any part of the US and have to go through horrendous INS interrogation even though one is just passing through.

QF used to service YVR-HNL-SYD. And in mid 90s, every time Boeing delivered a new 747-400, QF would route the inauguration flight from YVR and would sell special fares for that non stop flight to SYD. I still remember the great deals it had - something like C$747 return! Get it?

I guess the big question is whether the Canadian market could sustain a PPT service, considering Canadian salaries and resident buying power after taxes.

Remember all is not lost- YVR does have a YVR-HNL-NAN service with FJ.

doubtful there is a market for ppt ex Vancouver or Western Canada for that matter. However I am sure there would be some NZ and Australian traffic traveling via PPT.
It is likely that TN will be granted traffic rights from Vancouver to CDG. The local airport authority is lobbying hard for Canada to re-open bi-lateral talks with France. With a new government with a Prime Minister from Western Canada and a Foreign Trade Minister who was once on the YVR Board of directors, the possibility of Tn serving PPT-YVR-CDG is looking more promising.
