Air India Arrives In SFO (okay It's VT-AIM)

Wed Feb 08, 2006 6:54 am

VT-AIM has finally left LAX (yesterday) after repairs from the blown tires/damage-gear--that penetrated the fuselage and star-board leading edge stabilizer. Apparently, she'll be in SFO for a while as she has to undergo Re-Certification.

Will it be visible while at SFO? And if it's going for certification, is it safe for it to fly LAX-SFO (I'm sure it is, but just checking)?

It was there, it left here last night.

It was probably parked over deep in the UA Maintenance area.. becuase it was at Super Bay.. you would locked right on to it.

If it's in the deep end of UA maint. near the Coast Guard station... you can for get it. I'm sure she was simply made airworthy just to make the trip up there. But during certification, it should do a few touch and goes... but as I said, it should be there for awhile.

cool..maybe I'll drive up to SFO airport.....might be the only chance to see an AI 747 as I presume if AI flies to SFO, it will be with a 777

Hi Mel,

I'm gonna guess that the CofA is the Cerft. of Airworthiness. Given the damage that was done, this certainly qualified as structural. If I get the chance I'll share with you 'insight'. I tell you, Boeing and UA gave her 1st class treatment, undercarraige-wise, she's gotta be a new ship. And I guess any structural damage or that beyond a certain point.. renders the ship unairworthy.
