US Airways Planes

Just out of curiosity, many of you have stated that the A330s and other jets will be sold. Well would they have to be since the US mechanics could simply be retained to maintain those jets?

Not to be blunt,but your question is somewhat confusing---what's your point? With all due respect "many of you have stated" about jets being sold are just opinions...about what MAY happen IF the merger/buyout goes through. I can tell you US mechanic's A330 training has been going on and is continuing...buisness as usual.

I believe that US may get ride of the a330 if the us/ual happens
I hope not even though US will probably be the death of my airline i still like to see any little airline get bigger (plus he a330 looks good in that paint job)

That is a beautiful picture Twa747100, I have been using that 717 picture as proof when I say TWA has the best livery on the often asked topic "who has the best livery?".
I think UA should keep the A330, they dont have it and their 767 fleet isnt that large and the A330 is the direct competitor and it seems UA is turning more and more towards Airbus for aircraft, and the A330 would look great in United colors in my opinion.....

The A330s will stay but the DC-9s, MD-80s, Fokker F100s, & 737-200s will probably be disposed of after the merger with United.

I can't say about the others, but UA will park the F-100's and DC-9/MD-80 fleet if the merger is sucessful.

Whist United has embraced Airbus narrowbodies, don't expect United to be ordering any Airbus widebodys in the foreseeable future. That includes any 330's if/when the US merger goes ahead. They clearly support the 777 (over 40 in service so far with more on order)

I for one don't think they'll sell the 330's, at least not right away. Why? Well, it would cost them a lot to replace the aircraft, so why get rid of them. However, I wouldn't expect United to exercise any options or place new orders.
