US Airways Interiors

Sat Feb 11, 2006 1:35 am

Does anyone know if the new US Airways will adopt the America West interiors, the US Airways interiors or design a whole new one? Also, does anyone have any pictures of the pre-1996 US Airways interiors (before the name and image change). Any help would be appreciated.

Currently, the merged airline has no plans to replace any of the interiors short of regular maintainence.

If I remember correctly, the interiors didn't undergo any great change after the name change if they had any change at all.... I would like to know where they go from here.

I do have interior shots of the pre-1996 days, but no longer have my scanner. I will attempt to send you a few in the next few weeks.

As I recall they had navy blue leather 'up front' and blue cloth in back. If I'm not mistaken, the cloth had small red squares running across it, but the overall effect was blue. I think there were two slightly different shades of blue back there as well. I guess this all tied in with the metal-red-blue scheme.

That would be great if you could. I'd be real interested to see what it looked like. Those interiors were a bit before my time as I didn't really begin flying on US a lot until after the update. Shoot me an email and I'll give you my info. Thanks a lot

I think the more important point is when will they replace the US Airways interiors. I have never been on more filthy, run-down, worn out planes in a long time. From duct-tape holding togethe overhead compartments, do the glow-in-the-dark emergency exit strip on 757's being so filthy they are black, to seats that are falling apart.

They need to take a lesson from CO - not the flashiest, newest, sexiest livery, but clean, well-kept up interiors that keep the customer coming back.

As for seats, there seem to be no indications yet. IIRC new Airbus 32X deliveries to US will have GE engines and presumably would have the exact interior US and HP want for their combined system of the future. Are there any A32x to be delivered to US in 2006 or 2007?

US E190s this November might have some new elements that point to future US Airbus interiors.

737s would prob leave wthin 5-6 years, so no big reason to update them.

Actually while nothing was mentioned in the Press Release the new US E-190's will probably have the standard Embraer leather seats like the Mid-Atlantic and Republic E-170's operated at US which is different from other US/HP interiors !

All the new A32S planes being delivered to US have all-leather interiors. The cloth seats will be a thing of the past before too long, at least on the Airbus fleet.

I am confused. When did US Air change to US Airways? Did they have different coloured seats with the name US Air? I flew on US after they changed their name I think was 2000, but it was on a silver 737 still with the old name US Air, but the seats were pretty much the same as those that had already been repainted...

When Wolf announced the changing of the name from USAir to US Airways, there was also an interior change as well. This all tied in to the "Carrier of Choice" slogan that was being used. Basically both the interior and exterior colors were chosen to make the airline more business like.

The old interiors were indeed blue cloth with red sqaures. The old FC seats were blue leather with a red horizontal stripe towards the top. The 757's had a different type of leather seat that had a winglet type thing on the sides.

The old F in the 767's had 2-1-2 seating right after the PI merger and the middle seat swiveled from what I remember. Those seats were leather. After they got rid of F but before Envoy the seats were 2-2-2 and made of a blue/green mix cloth.

Before the blue cloth with red squares, they had beige cloth with red squares in coach. It looked rather nice.

Well I think it is a little bit sad to see, that the fleet get outside a new and shiny painting, but inside absolute nothing happening. I flew in December and January to Europe both times by a new painted 762. Nice from the outside few, but inside they really need some "cosmetic-work".
One 762 was in a so bad shape, that even the cover of the emergency exit was fixed with tape from Delta Airlines! I really wondered about it, how this is possible. Not a good picture for an airline in all.

You got that right. Wait...were you on the plane or inside PHL!? But then again I flew ORD to LAS on HP a few weeks back and it was the worst I'd EVER seen. Nice Airbus...but they had just let it go to hell.

By the way...during the merger the rumor was that the "new" US would be an all Airbus fleet eventually. Is that still true?

I would imagine it is possible that the entire US transoceanic fleet - A330, B767 and now B757 - will get a unified product with AVOD and new seats. Just a hunch. Probably not this summer when all the planes are in use, but perhaps next winter.

Does anyone know what I can expect in Business class on USAirways. My whole family have booked the ticket from DTW-GLA-SNN-DTW. I know they are on a B767-200ER. But, what kind of seats and service do they have. This is my first time in this class of service.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Chuck for being a travel agent you sure ask a lot of questions on subjects you should naturally know or have the resources readily at your disbosal to find the answers.

Luv2fly..... Sorry. But, I do not travel in Business Class at all. This is my first time. I know what to expect in coach class. And besides it does not hurt to ask questions if you are not sure about something. As I do so I don't give the wrong information to any client I may be working with. If their is one thing I can't stand is a Travel Agent that thinks they know everything and gives out the wrong information to someone. That is just bad business.

So sorry for asking so many questions.......

I tend to agree with the guy, cause unless you have flown it yourself, or have received detailed information from someone who has, you won't really know, travel agent or not. I used to work for US Airways, but i have never been on the 762, so i have absolutely no idea what it looks like on the inside. But I know what the Envoy product entails, but not from personal experience.

The A3S will be all leather? Thats pretty crazy. I think the current America West interior is rather nice. If they adapted that a bit I think it would look really good. But, if leathers the way they want to go then so be it...

The new deliveries to the HP side of the operation with the all leather interiors look really nice. Funny how the seats still have the HP logo imprinted in them though. For those who haven't seen them, they're navy blue and the planes still look pretty bright on the interiors as opposed to the US gray coffin interiors, so they still look nice. The only other difference is larger overhead bins.

Envoy class is quite nice. I personally prefer it to business class on just about any other airline I fly, save maybe SQ. I think it's nicer than World Business on NWA and Business on United. I think it's as good as BizElite on CO. The seats are very comfortable....they recline nearly but not quite 180degrees also have AVOD. It's more or less the same product on 333 as 767. Coach in 767 isn't great, but I don't think it's much worse than LH or any other carrier lacking IFE>

The product on the 767 is not even remotely similar to the product on the 333. They're not even playing the same game.

The 767 Envoy product doesn't have AVOD, the pitch and seats are different, everything about it is different.

But they do have PTV's, don't they? The A330 product is in a different league. I really wish they standardize the Envoy product soon.

I honestly don't find it all that much worse. Sure, the plane is narrower but I never really notice. AVOD is missing but whatever...I usually end up working.

The insides of the plane, though important, is not what will keep passengers coming back. It's what the airline offers. Right now US needs to get it's op's in order in PHL. If it's going to be a large gateway they need to ensure a smooth operation there. I don't know what it's like on the mainline side but the ramp agents on F need to be poked just to make them work. I've never seen a lazier group of people. Once their operations are under control then I would focus on other area, such as the interior and updating gate space. What I would also focus on is what to offer passengers on the plane, update F class offerings, add more buy on board in coach...that sort of thing.

I want to know when America West/ Us Airways flights from places like J F K, and Kalispell, MT and other places like Vancouver will simply be referred to as Us Airways? And not Us Airways, flown by America West

Probably once either we have 1 reservation system and all US flight numbers (no more codeshare) or when we have completely combined our operating certificates. Until then both names will be used, though we are supposed to only mention America West sparingly. I never do anymore, I just say US Airways everything.
