Sultan Of Brunei's B747 - Registration Query

Sat Feb 11, 2006 7:24 pm

Hi all,

The Sultan of Brunei's B747-400 visited Singapore today. The flight info said the reg was V8-AL1 whilst most of the Internet says it to be V8-ALI.

Does anybody know which is accurate?

Thanks

According to a book I own (Airliner Color History:Boeing 747-400)

"It is registered V8-AL1 (Alpha Lima One) but Is confused with V8-ALI (Alpha Lima India)"

but I woudn't be too sure these books get it wrong all the time, all other aircraft in Brunei are registered V8-xxx not V8-xx# (x representing any letter, # representing any number) according to airfleets it is registered V8-ALI (Alpha Lima India). So I'm not quite sure myself

Not true that all aircraft of the Brunei Royal Flight are registered V8-XXX and not V8-XX#. Some of us may recall a B727 painted in Royal Brunei colours and registered V8-BG1 or V8-BG2 (possibly both).

My understanding is the V8-AL1 is the correct one (1 denoting its designation as the Sultan's primary vehicle during state visits). Would love to hear it from someone who could say with certainty.

The B747SP of the Sultan's Flight had a numerical prefix in its registration, before it was sold to one of the Emirates, unless A.net got it wrong. To wit:

It is V8-ALI (India) , NOT V8-AL1 (ONE)
The other Brunei VIP planes are :
V8-001 G5
V8-BKH A340-212
V8-MHB 767-27G ER

Probably they will be the first country to get an A380VIP , as the Sultan himself declared at the last FIDAE show which took place at Santiago.

I heard that the Sultan is a pilot and flies his own a/c. Can anyone confirm that?
