Is This Virgin's New Preminum Economy?

Sun Feb 12, 2006 12:42 am

I was looking on v-flyer.com in the photo gallery and noticed this new pic of leather seats in PE on an A346. Are they testing out a new cabin for PE? Check it out.

Would be weird if it was the new cabin. Leather seats in the centre block of 3, cloth seats by the window.

So apart from 'window or aisle' you could also choose between 'leather or cloth'.  Smile)

Maybe, like the extra charge for Exit Rows, VS will charge more to sit in the leather seats (but you get a discount if you are stuck in the middle).  Wink

Folks, go back to V-Flyer and the read the discussion: http://www.v-flyer.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10486&whichpage=1

Those are the new seats in a mock-up. The entire 346 PE cabin will look like that (all leather seats). The entire 346 fleet will be modified starting in May and will end in Oct. 2006 . No word on 343s and 744s.

More highlights from the topic:
-a dedicated FA for PE
-new Y seats
-more seat pitch
-water fountain area
-mid-galley (doors 3) will be removed
-front galley (door 1) will be changed so as to allow for more room for UC pax
-there will be more seats in PE and less in Y

PE is Virgin's most profitable class per passenger (or something of that sort).

It's common practice to trial a new seat design before implementing it fleet wide.

While the rest of the seats in the cabin are the normal Virgin Premium Economy seats, Virgin have obviously replaced 2 rows of seats in the middle block with a new design. They could be testing customer reaction and/or in-service durability of the seat before deciding to install it across the fleet.

Looks very nice actually, hope they go with it... the bright red/blue fabrics currently used are dated, and the brown leather brings a look of the Upper Class cabin with it.

It looks fantastic. I just wish VS would start service to Canada, as I'm dying to fly them.

Looks fantastic, just shocked that some pitch was 29"! Would be good to see the 744's get this too (especially those at LGW/MAN, I think they have an older version of PE seats than those on the 346)

Wrong. They are actually being trialled on G-VWKD, along with the new style economy seats (which are on the left just behind the 3 door) - to gauge pax reaction and also as mentioned above to test the durability of the materials on an in-service a/c as certain conditions cannot be replicated in a mock up (like having 300 people all bash their bags past them !!).

Have they thought about upgrading the meal service a bit to distinguish it from the main cabin?

What makes me always wonder is how can you sit for hours in a $h!tty brown-coloured cabin.
I've seen it in a few CJ's and personally I think it looks like some 70's throwback.

Love the error message!

Sorry, I had to change the image location to stop Crosswind's post leeching bandwidth. The new location is here:
