Mesa United Express Embraer ERJs

Thu Feb 16, 2006 2:09 am

I saw a Mesa/United Express ERJ-145 in CLT last week N851MJ. Looking at the United Timetable it shows multiple routes with Mesa using ERJ equip. I thought all ERJs were going to Delta. Did something change? How many ERJs are expected to be used at UAX. Also when is Mesa last ERJ flight for US Airways express? Thanks.
Cross check complete.

The plan was for the ERJ's to fly for DL under the (Freedom Airlines) certificate but that changed to CRJ's and the ERJ's to US. There is to be 30 (CR2's) 50-seaters coming for DL. Being with one of the other DL Connection carriers I'm not thrilled with J.O. coming into the DL network!

You shouldn't be thrilled at all that Mesa is coming to DL. Next think you know your costs are being compared to Mesa's and DL is asking you to go lower.

I was reading in the US Airways Employee Newsletter that Mesa's flights will leave the east in spring. Mesa will only operate out of the west for the "foreseeable" future. Air Wisconsin will operate a majority of the east coast flights. I wonder just how long the foreseeable future is.

Mesa will continue to operate the CRJ 900s for US for quite some time, and Air Midwest will be around for at least another year or two.

Air Wisconsin will remain to have much of the PHL/DCA jet market, with Chautauqua in BOS/LGA and PSA owning CLT. Piedmont/Colgan will still be around, hopefully we'll see PDT pick up some new planes soon...

March schedules show both a CRJ (daily) and an ER4 (Sundays only) Mesa operated flight for UAX to IAD from PVD...

Actually the ERJs are going to DL, we had I believe 36 ERJs in CLT, 30 of them are going to the DL system and the remaining 6 are going to UAX.

What about the Freedom CR2's that are already in MCO? Will the ERJ's be based along side these CRJ's? I thought the cap was 30 for DL, has this changed?

There are no YV CRJ's in MCO. It is all ER4's.

Colgan will still be around,

Nah. At some point every one of their Saabs will be dead at a various outstations and they'll have to close up shop. People flame the heck out of Mesa, but Colgan is the the real "Duct tape and bubble gum" operation.
