EK Employees - Staff Travel Benefits

Sat Feb 18, 2006 12:20 am

Just wondering whether any EK staff on a.net can just give me a quick heads up of staff travel benefits. You are part of the ZED agreement, right? Are parents an siblings eligible too? Can you buy ID 90 J and F?

Thanks

From a reliable source . . .  Smile

"Yes, we are part of ZED agreement although quite a few of them are high ZED fares. Parents and sibling are eligible for travel benefits on EK. One standby (ID90) ticket and one confirmed (ID50) ticket per year per sibling/parent/spouse. If you have many wifes, they are all eligible. All in Economy Class. Benefits with other airlines vary between airlines. Most employees are only eligible for Y class travel on EK. Flight crew, pursers and management employees get to travel in J class. Although not a policy, outstation staff will usually upgrade you if flight is oversold and you can't get a Y class seat. But out of DXB, dream on. They will often leave behind employees simply because Y class is full when J class is not. Travel benefits also vary slightly depending on where you are based because of the local labor laws."

Hope this helps.

Thanks very much.

Did I read this right - employees and their spouse only eligible for one ID 90 per year? I've never heard of this before, I thought ID90s were supposed to be unlimited.

Sorry, I paraphrased it wrong. Employees and spouses get unlimited. But parents and siblings get one of each ID90 and ID50 on EK per year.

I would be interested to know if the EK employees based in Australia and New Zealand get travel benefits for domestic partners/common-law partners since labor laws in NZ are very liberal. Do you know if they do?

I can confirm this... Was bumped on a DXB-PER flight last year even C was wide open but Y full... What a goddamned policy!

Sorry - replied last night but it doesn't seem to have registered.

Very interesting question. I would think that it would have to include non spouses in those countries due to local legislation. In the Gulf, nominee can only be spouse - with QF, NZ, etc it can be anyone (sibling, spouse, parent, etc). However, some interline travel will still dictate that you can only bring husband/wife regardless of who your own carrier nominee is.

That is sad if indeed true...

Ek is not the only carrier that does this. Many check in agents who feel that airline employees are not good enough to sit in either of the hallowed premium cabins do this. I can list several European, Asian and at least one US carrier that do tend to operate this way

Following on, I can also confirm that Qantas will leave its own employees behind if Y Class is full and wont upgrade them or a PAX to J of F if it means getting a staff member on.

At QF we can buy Business Class internationally only after 7 years of sevice. until 7 years its down the back

Re emirates and de facto or common law partners, i can Fly EK but my same sex de facto partner cannot ! this is the same on ZED arranagements with GF, TG and Etihad !

Cheers

This is sick. No cost to the airline, and helps staff motivation/pride in their employer. I can understand if the staff is not dressed appropriately, but usually staff are the ones who are dressed so well that they stick out!

NZ staff are able to buy Business Class tickets, but again, only if space is available.

Think I'll stick with SK then...  Wink
Business Class tickets with SK and a few other star airlines after 6 months when you get your benefits and unlimited ID75s for parents and 8 star travel partner (ID90/ID75) tickets per year.

Yep SK973...
SK has a very generous attitude towards ID-travellers and staff benefits in general...

I'm glad to know this. Last year I thought about flying SK ORD-ARN-DUB because the flights on a particular day looked pretty good. I ended up changing plans, but I still haven't flown SK, though I plan to visit CPH before too long.

The only international offline upgrade I have gotten was when a friend (registered companion) and I were flying BA DFW-LGW (I work for AA so it was Oneworld) and they put us together in World Traveller Plus.
See, I knew American Eagle was first class all along!
