707 And A380 Tail

Sat Feb 18, 2006 10:59 am

Is it just me or does the Airbus 380 have a tail something like the 707 with the extended part.

Regards

IIRC, I think 707 still had a small radius, curved fillet at the root of its vertical fin, or maybe that was a different version.

Is it me or does A380 not appear so big anymore, i.e. does that picture make it look normal? Does to me.

I agree with you on this one.

holy crap -- that is the ugliest plane i have ever seen. the chubby engines, the giant forehead, and the short, stubby body.

It would look a lot better if the cockpot was fully on the upper deck, like the 747, not in the middle of the 2 decks. IIRC, Boeing had a plane like that with the cockpit on the upper deck on the drawing board years ago.

horrible.

Can I ask why you would even bother replying to a thread if you don't like it? Have you not had a chance to voice your opinion in the umpteen other threads there have been on here calling it ugly?

It's a fairing for the boom that they use to collect airflow data from behind the aircraft, if I'm not mistaken.

They will be removed when they go into full service with their respective airlines, and the production-build ones won't have them.

EVERY aircraft has them during the testing phase.. most are usually down near the apu exhaust.

You voiced your opinion on a TOTALLY UNRELATED matter than the one in hand, did you really have to even bother?

I think many people here are getting annoyed at the almost constant 'oh my god its horrible' postings that pop up in every A380 thread imaginable, please save it for Polls and Preferences.

I have opinions on the 747, but I keep them to myself rather than spouting them in the first 747 related thread I come across.

The 707 had a prominent antenna which protruded out from the Front of the tail......thus, the resemblance with the A380 tail is quite minimal....

I think what you mean is a "trailing cone". Read more about them at:
