After the announcement by Rudolf Wöhrl to acquire the majority of LTU via his holding INTRA,the bets are high that LTU will become a more dynamic and more globally operationg entity.
Wöhrl clearly announced that he intends to go after Lufthansa (...hence STAR )and build a more agressive ,more visible airline.Among the potantial targets could be Austria, since he could feed passengers from Austria into Longhaul services from MUC and DUS to his global network of destinations.
The recent order for 30 x 737 NG aircraft will provide him with a formidable set of hardware to just acomplish that.
LTU has a quite attractive network of destinations in the USA and the Caribes and clearly wants to attract business travellers as well-his A330's all have business-class cabin.
Just to put things in perspective- AUA has 7 destinations in USA and Cuba,LTU has 15 destinations....
But LTU would have to densify their network in Asia, where AUA have an advantage in terms of destinations.
