FlyBaboo To Increase GVA-ZRH And Reduce Fares!

Mon Feb 20, 2006 7:22 pm

The new GVA-ZRH-GVA link by fly Baboo seems to have success. If one reads the article below you can figure out by yourselves.
Its in French but I will translate it

Fly Baboo will increase their frequency of flights from GVA to ZRH. The Geneva Bases company will start 2 to 3 flights a day from February 28 th onwards and 3 to 4 starting March 26th.
The CEO Juilan Cook believes the GVA-ZRH market can be stimulated and give an alternative to actual offers

I went to their website and saw the fares are as low as 25 Francs !!! With taxes it makes GVA-ZRH 47 Francs(30 EUR, 40$) one way and 113 Fr (72EUR,86$)round trip ! This definitely competes very succesfully against Swiss 375 francs one way from each city and also against CFF, the train company.....who in some cases (if you don't have the Half fare abonnement) will be more expensive but only a little cheaper if you have the abonnement.Of course timewise its only advantageous for those who live in GVA region.

One thing that is not mentioned are eventual scheduled flights on Saturdays

Regards

BM

I thought they weren't going ahead with these plans cause they couldn't find an appropriate aircraft. They had also stated previously that they could not find suitable slots in ZRH between 08h00 and 09h00. So what's changed?

From what I know "Swiss" has filled an additional slot on the ZRH-GVA route, occupying the slots flyBaboo wanted. There are no slots available when flyBaboo (originally) wanted to fly.

I'll keep my opinion on this route. It's silly of flyBaboo. "Swiss" will force them out of this market in no time, like they do with all their weak competitors in ZRH (such as Helvetic etc.)

"Swiss" is losing money as well (adding too much capacity, lowering fares) during a certain time but is able to force flyBaboo away.

Just checked the CFF site and Geneva (city) to Zurich (city) is CHF77 one way. With the 1/2 abo that is CHF38.50.

This route is very interesting because the high competition with the railway company, which offers connections between the two cities every half an hour. The trip is 2:43 hours.

Think at the time you need to get to GVA airport, check-in, eventual delay, flight time, exit from ZRH, get the train or taxi to reach ZRH city centre.... Come on... you get there faster with the train... and cheaper! Swiss has flight connections, so it is logical to operate the route, but Flybaboo will make a hole in the water with increasing frequency!

Next flight: hopefully soon...

Actually, I'm surprised that LX hasn't done a deal with the CFF to offer connecting services from Geneva, Lausanne, etc to Zurich airport. From my local station (Nyon) it's 2 1/2 hours to ZRH via the train (2 3/4 if you count the taxi to the station), but if I was going to GVA I'd need 20 mins to drive in, 10 mins to park, check in 1 hour in advance, 45 min block to block, 45 minute MCT - 3 hours without any delays! And since I can checkin online or at the rail station I don't need an hour at ZRH.

SWISS seems to be taking the competition seriously, or they're just trying to run Baboo out of business as quickly as possible. As of tomorrow until the end of april, SWISS is offering the ZRG-GVA route for CHF66. Don't know if that's for the return or the one way though.

As an aviation fan I'd rather fly from GVA-ZRH because the train ride becomes "psychologically long" with all those stops in between . However ever since SR dropped GVA for longhaul in 1996 people haven't conencted to ZRH as much as SR expected...they preferred(I being one of them) connecting to other european airports...and thus perhaps CFF sdoesn't find it so attractive to do such a deal with LX.

Another thing, I remeber CFF putting ashuttle train during the SR grounding in 2001 which did Genve -Aroport- Biel/Bienne-Zrich-Zrich flughafen using the ICN trains!

Has anyone here actually ever flown with Baboo? What are they like, but's the inflight product like? They may have a really dumb name but their website is so stylish. Think I just might have to try them one of these days.
