New Flights To Bermuda

Tue Feb 21, 2006 9:41 am

Just heard Bermuda's Minister of Tourism announce these evening that:

1. Spirit Airlines will fly to Bermuda daily from La Guardia as from mid April
2. LTU(?) will fly from Munich to Bermuda as from early June. Frequency, I think will be weekly.
3. United will fly to Bermuda on Sundays from Detroit and some other US city (Boston?) during June, July and August. These flights will be code shared with US Airways.

Finally, BA economy seats on its LGW/ Bermuda flights will be reduced in order to attract more UK tourists to the island.

More concrete details (or corrections) to follow shortly

Why in the name of God would United fly from DTW? Maybe I'm missing something, but what is point, where is the market? Thats all O&D, if I'm not mistaken, even codeshared with US. Now NW I could understand. Isn't B6 starting up on May 4th, as well?

I think I heard Detroit. Perhaps, its the incentive offered by the Government of Bermuda of compensating airlines in monetary terms for a given number of unsold seats per flight. This is known to have been offered in the past.

Some additional news.

1. DELTA Air Lines is to increase its daily service between Atlanta and Bermuda, offering a second flight as of May 26. There will be a 150-seat Boeing 737 arriving at Bermuda International Airport at 8 p.m. and departing Bermuda at 8.30 a.m.

2. In response to the plans that Jet Blue will be servicing Bermuda as from May 2006, both Continental and American Airlines have announced that they will be offering lower fares to the island.

3. BA will reduce the price of their economy tickets in order to encourage more UK tourists to visit Bermuda.

Yea.. that doesn't seem right .... UA might be ORD, or NW from DTW.

But then again, I guess anything is possible.

NW flew DTW-BDA weekly last summer. I think DTW is a gateway under Bermuda II, it might not be able to be moved. If NW doesn't want it, I guess UA could fly it from DTW, but I agree it doesn't make a lot of sense. Nothing posted in the Royal Gazette today....
