Route Of The Record Breaking 777-200LR

Wed Feb 22, 2006 10:35 pm

I've searched everywhere, including on a.net and still can't find this. Does anyone know the eastbound route (flightplan) of the 777-200LR's record flight from Hong Kong to Heathrow? VHHH-EGLL

Thanks!

The record was set using Great Circle distances between:

Hong Kong
At point in mid-Pacific, Lat. 35N, Long. 180W
LAX
JFK
LHR

The airplane had to overfly these points.

Actual route flown was a bit longer to take advantage of winds.

It was pretty close to HKG-HNL-LAX-JFK-LHR.
Plug that in the Great Circle Mapper and it should give you the approximate route.

The mid-Pacific point was closer to Midway than HNL.

And it came into the USA near SFO, then turned southeast to overfly LAX, then flew on.

However, as I said, the distance credit is only the great circle from N35-W180 to LAX, no matter where it first made US landfall.
