Interior Coloring In New US Airways

Thu Feb 23, 2006 7:30 am

I noticed that an A319 was delivered to America West/US Airways in the new livery.

Is the new livery being paired with a cabin decor change? What is the scheme, does anyone know?

I was wondering as US Airways aircraft have been pretty dowdy lately.

I flew DCA-CLT-MOB and all the aircraft cabins were positively dirty.

They may be converting to a low-cost carrier, but Southwest keeps its planes better.

Are they simply letting appearances slide because of imminent refurbishments?

The new A319 was delivered with the latest America West-style interior which consists of blue leather seats throughout the entire cabin.

Earlier in the year it was announced that there were no current plans for refurbishing/standardizing cabins any time soon. US Airways cabins/aircraft are in such bad shape due to lack of proper cleaning over a long period of time. The airline simply could not afford some things, paint and cabin maintainence were two non-essential things that were skimped on during the hard years.

Only cabin changes Ive heard of are the dropping of the "Envoy" name for "Business Class".. probably because most America West customers cant say "Envoy".. just like they dont know what an "Attache" is..

Also, on the A330, they are ripping out a few J class seats and replacing them with more coach seats.

Same here. I was talking to my sales rep for USAirways. And he said that the airline is putting all of its International Aircraft on priorty to redue the interiors. As some of the aircraft (B757-200) that are going over the pond do not have a business class section. They are going to be updating those and have a business class added. After that they will work on all the other older aircraft.

I'm one of those that is hoping they get the new business class section in on the B757-200 soon. As I and 30 other people in my tour will be flying on them from DTW to GLA and SNN to DTW. Right now the B757-200's have only coach class seating for these flights over the pond. Oh and this is Via PHL.

Many of the Shuttle flights I have been on in the last year have been absolutely filthy, with obvious ground-in dirt on the seats, stains on the walls and tray-tables, and threadbare seats. These are the A319s I am talking about; I shudder to think what some of the older aircraft look like. What a shame!

The Envoy name is not going to be dropped. The 757s will not have Envoy Class seating this year, as they are being acquired too late to do a major refurbishment. After the seasonal routes are pulled down this fall, they will be refitted for Envoy service.

In one issue of "About US" last year, they addressed the interiors issue and said that on the domestic fleet, interior refurbishments were not an immediate priority. I remember feeling disappointment when I read that...

In terms of Envoy, I was under the assumption that the name was being dropped, as I heard this through the employee grapevine, and also the fact that the word "Envoy" appears nowhere in the new US Airways Magazine.

Considering the J class seats being torn out, I should have made myself clear that I have only heard that through the rumor mill.. should have put "apparently" before the entire sentence. So only time will tell.

I seriously hope they refirb the interiors though, and put some more seats in those F8 East 757-200's... Even as a US1 its hard as hell to clear.

And as for the people who moan about the interiors being dirty, would you rather have a dirty plane with peeling paint that was safe and totally airworthy, or a perfectly clean plane with perfect paint that was poorly maintained? Management had to make a choice when times were tough at US East... They decided to keep up a high level of maintainence, while deferring other, non-essential items, which was the right thing to do. Id rather have cuts in places like catering than cuts in CLT's mx ops (or MORE cuts in PIT's)...

I have heard the US 319's which are currently in an F12-Y108 configuration are going to an F12-Y112 config, to match the former HP aircraft !

Cheers

Great! That means less seat pitch in the Y section. I guess I should be thankful that they are keeping the F cabin with 12 seats and not reducing it. However, because of each division's aircraft fleet size, I would think that HP would adapt US's A319 configuration and US would adapt HP's 320 configuration, since that would mean fewer aircraft types that would need to make a change.

As for the future of the A330 J cabin. My guess, if there is going to be a
change, would be the removal of the Row 1/ F-style seats, and then having
just 5 rows of J seats between the first two sets of exit doors.

As mentioned before, the 757 will be all coach for this summer, although there will be 8 domestic F/C seats in it.

You sure? I believe it is, although the website states otherwise. (I think the magazine refers to it as Business Class) I'm a little confused about it none-the-less.

US announced they were adding seats to the A319 and A330. It was about the time the E190 came out.

Although I'm not sure how they are going to do it, but the logical solution would be the seat pitch. Hopefully, they can find some way not reduce the seat pitch, like taking out a closet, although that wouldn't be too peachy for the businness passengers.

I am also concerned about the seat pitch on the 190. I was hoping it would be the same as the 170, but logic points to 31".

They are going to keep Row 1 like it is. They will be removing Rows 6 and 7, which are the worst Envoy/Business seats. That will add at least 30 coach seats.

US A319s have closets?? In that case, yeah I hope those go in favor of keeping better seat pitch. Who the heck needs closets. Keep stuff like that to widebodies on long haul, for the A319 the coathangers behind the last FC row should be just fine.

When I was out in LAS and PHX I saw a few of the new HP birds in the new paint, and also saw a hybrid A320 in HP colors with US Airways titles on both sides could this have been one of the heritage planes?

Any pictures of this interior setup? Does anybody know if the new HP a/c have the ads on the trays?

On a side note my HP/US flight from PHX the A320 was very clean and the crew was great!

America West customers can say Envoy as well as US Airways (east anyway) customers can say "wheres my luggage?"

From my understanding, the name change was considered, got to some high levels, things started to get renamed (like the magazine, which, remember, was printed two months ago by now), and then they (rightly) decided against it.

Again..... the E-190s in November will point to the new decor - (grey vs. blue, carpet, decals, first class seat type).

Seems like 2007 may bring interior standardization / possible fix-ups in the rest of fleet(s).

All the recent US Airways airplanes I've been on have been quite filthy. If they could be standardized with the America West cabins that would be great.

The US 734 I was on a few months ago had adverts for Verizon on the tray tables. The Shuttle 319's are on a high usage rotation, therefore there is not enough general time to really clean those airplanes.

I don't ever have the opportunity to fly mainline. All DTW-PHL service is express. I will say that the Air Willy CRJ's have all been spotless. The Piedmont Dashes could use some attention, and really could use some paint!
