Excel Airways Leases Eight Boeing 737's

Thu Feb 23, 2006 8:06 pm

Excel Airways, a subsidiary of Avion Group signed a contract today with General Electric Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) for the lease of two Boeing 737-900ER's and two Boeing 737-800's.

The first 737-900ER's, who will be able to carry 215 passenger over a distance of 4.000 km., will be rolling out of the factory in 2007 and Excel Airways will receive theirs in May 2008. The 737-800's will be delivered in the second quarter of 2007.

In addition to this, contracts for the lease of four 737-700's have been finalized. Two will be coming from ILFC (International Lease Finance Corporation) and two from RBS (Royal Bank of Scotland). They will enter
service in the first half of 2007.

The new jets will be used on routes from London Gatwick and Manchester to destinations in the Canary Islands, Southern Europe and the Mediterrinean.

All 8 jets will be leased for a period of 8 years.

Excellent! More nice new NGs, and the -900, too. A rarity in British skies!

Wow never heard any rumors about this last year - proves how out of the loop we were at bristol  Smile

Thats great news, I'm suprised about the 737-700 order and am thrilled about the 900ER order too. The 737 looks great in the XLA livery  Smile

Maybe the 900ER is finally here to replace the 757s which had a less than colourful season last year  Wink

two from RBS (Royal Bank of Scotland).

Please tell me thats a sick joke, RBS is naff as a bank..... but maybe they are ok at financing aircraft though.

Anyway great news on the order.

Excellent to see the 737-900ER will be operated by them. A question though, I have the press release from Avion Group here and it states that ILFC & RBS Capital will Lease them 4 737-800s not -700s

Excel Airways, which forms part of Avion Group's charter & leisure division, has signed an agreement with GE Commercial Aviation Services (GECAS) for the lease of two Next-Generation Boeing 737-900ER (Extended Range) aircraft being marketed by Boeing in 2007 and two Boeing 737-800s with a delivery in the second quarter in 2007. In addition four Boeing 737-800s will be added to the fleet in the first six months of 2007, two from ILFC (International Lease Finance Corporation) and two from RBS (Royal Bank of Scotland). All the aircraft are leased for eight years as a part of the Group's aircraft fleet renewal plan.

Can anyone tell me which is correct?

You are indeed correct. The press release says four 737-800's. There will be no -700's.

My mistake  Smile

Nice work Expo!

The 900's will potentially be able to make Banjul...

Other than that being a stable tourist location, where else could they expand to within the Africa/Middle Eastern market?

Excel have 2 new 738's due in June this year. To be G-XLAI/J. They will also lease Viking MD83 SE-RDE, as well as the Finnair 757 thats mentioned above for summer 2006.
This new lease will total 6 738's and 2 739ER's? They have had 4 738's on order for a while. These will be the -800's due in the first six months of 2007.

Can't wait to see these new 737's, winglet equipped do you think?
