Hainan Airlines To BOS

Thu Feb 23, 2006 11:40 pm

Hi,

Saw this in today's IHT:
"Hainan, which currently operates flights to eastern Europe, Japan and Korea, is preparing to start nonstop passenger flights to Boston from China, said Chen Feng, the airline's chairman."

I wonder where to in China? Anyway, Boston is finally getting the Asian nonstop they deserve.

This was discussed here a month or so ago. They will start with Cargo operations this year only, and starting passenger service to Beijing and Shangai sometime in 2007 although the latest news I read mentioned Beijing only. The flights will be direct (not non-stop), but they don't say where they'll stop.

How are they going to operate to Boston nonstop with a 767-300?  sarcastic

HKG might be an option. Airliners World published something which said Hainan is planning to buy CR Airways, making HKG a likely hub for Hainan. But then their fleet does not have the right aircraft to make it.

Malpensa, agreed. They would have to strech the legs on the 767-300 a long way. Maybe an ANC stop?

On a side note of Hainan: Edmonton will be seeing 2 Hainan Q400's in Jun/Jul to be sold to QX.

would leasing a larger aircraft (used) be an option?

I am wondering if they will take advantage of the new China-Canada bi latteral agreement and route it throught Vancouver? The YVR airport authority mentioned in a recent newspaper article that they are in talks with several Chinese carriers on service into Vancouver.

Maybe?

Cheeky Hainan is already flying one of its B738 in its own colours using CRK's code shuttling to Haikou few times a day. Normally you have to be a Hong Kong based company to be granted an AOC in HK. This is kind of a back door entry to the market. Hainan I believe has a less than controlling share in CRK while local businessmen owns the just over majority. As long as this is the case HKCAD can't say a word about it.

That's my suspicion. I can definitely see Hainan Airlines serving YVR. Air China uses a 767-300 on the PEK-YVR route (I believe). Then Hainan Airlines can sell tickets between YVR and BOS. I don't think there is nonstop service between BOS and YVR now.

I think so. There has been talk in Hungary that Malev will get some of Hainan's B763's as they're badly need by MA to replace its B762s.

On Hainan's BUD-PEK flights, the crew is comprised of one Malev and one Hainan pilot, they're also some MA FA's onboard.

BTW,
we had a visit of Hainan at our catering station in BRU.
They are interested to start here as well!
