Sat Feb 25, 2006 2:23 am

I was wondering if anyone could help me on what routes UA & AA fly (nonstop) to Asia and Europe from ORD. Can you include aircraft type.

I need to look up the aircraft type, but they are pretty much at parity, with UA serving more destinations nonstop in the Pacific and AA flying to more nonstop in Europe + India. This competition has been ebbing and flowing for years and is probably the only part of the airline industry that has remained consistent over the past 15 years. AA got LHR-ORD rights before UA, but UA beat AA to the ORD-NRT route. However, eventually both airlines secured the rights to fly from O'Hare to both Narita and Heathrow.

The competetion is intense and both airlines have the feed and a great O&D market in Chicago to co-exist on many of these intercontinental routes. You don't find that at many other (if any) US airports.

Yeah,

I know UA dod not even start flying international until 1990 or 1991.

AA started international service in 1982 from DFW.

I am not sure when ORD international flights built up for AA, but in the January 1985 Timetable they only have one Non-Stop International flight out of ORD and that is to FRA X1.

I wonder if AA can fly ORD-HKG........given the amount of flights UA has to HKG, AA might be able to make a go out of it.......

maybe this is a possible CX code sharing route....or, it AA could fly to HKG and codeshare with CX in HKG...that would be quite strong also!

I remember as a kid that there was a lot of press about the AA flight to FRA. It was the first flight for AA. My mother flew it not long after and thought it compared relatively well to the LH flights we had taken.
