US Domestic 747/777 Flights

Sat Feb 25, 2006 8:40 am

Searched for the answer but can't seem to find it...

Are there any domestic flights that originate and terminate in mainland US that currently operate with a 747 or 777?

DL operates a 777 service on ATL-MCO, and perhaps other destinations.

I believe UA uses both types ex ORD/DEN .
AA operates LAX-DFW-MIA with B777 as well as ORD-MIA (or it did) during peak cruiseship travel.
You can't get there from here.

Wow, I just checked this route, and UA uses many types on this route - 737, 757, 767, and 777.

No 747 though.

I don't think DL operates the 777 on the ATL-MCO route anymore. However, they do operate one from ATL-LAX (flight 181). It goes back from LAX-ATL as flight 180.

I was on a UA 747 SFO - ORD last November. First it was down as a 757, then a 777 and finally a747.

I didn't think DL could spare a 777 with all thier expansions. Maybe used in between assignments to keep pilots 'legal' with take off's and landings.

Can you buy a ticket on QF just for the LAX-JFK route? Or do you have to include Australia in your travel?

I flew UA SFO-ORD on a 744 in biz class in 1999, that was one sweet ride. Would love to do it again. I searched a month or two ago for a domestic 744 flight and couldn't find anything.

Andrew,QF can only sell you a LAX-JFK or JFK-LAX **IF** you are continuing on to SYD.

Same with JL's LAS-LAX 744 flight. But , i read that Phillipine can sell you a ticket for LAS-YVR on an A340.

I think you can fly ORD to IAD with United on a 777 and you dont have to continue to an international flight. One time I was planning to fly from IND to IAD via ORD but I didnt have time to take the 1pm flight which was when the flight was scheduled for.

SV uses a 777 from JFK - IAD - JFK. I don't know if you can book on the JFK - IAD portion but the flight is still pretty heavy and bags do dis-embark from IAD- JFK but not that many.

Last summer flew UA from SFO to ORD on a 777. Was weird because I then connected from the SFO - ORD 777 to a 767 for the ORD - GRU flight. I wish I could have kept the 777.

AA flies the 777 DFW-ORD-LHR. On my way back from ELP I take this flight just to fly the 777 instead of flying the regular S-80 from ELP-ORD.

UA does offer a bunch of flights with the 777 domestically:
Many from SFO-HNL, or OGG (but those are the domestic configs)
IAD-DEN
DEN-ORD
DEN-SFO
ORD-SEA
SEA-DEN
ORD-IAD
IAD-LAX

Alot of these flights (except for the IAD-LAX, IAD-DEN, ORD-SEA-DEN) utilize the 777 to move equipment around the system. Sometimes, though, they will throw in a 744. I remember in 2004, UA946 & 947 IAD-LAX-IAD, was operated by a 744. Even a few months ago, there was a SFO-LAX flight with a 744. You have to remember though, the international fleet is stretched to the max right now, and with the summer approaching, you will see less and less widebody domestic service, as those aircrafts will be needed for the extra capacity on Intl' routes.

You can actually fly on QF107/108 LAX-JFK vv if you are travelling on any QF flight into/out of the US, so to/from SYD/MEL/BNE/AKL.

Also, when QF start their SYD-SFO-YVR flights, anyone will be able to purchase tickets on the SFO-YVR flight. The first west coast flight on oneworld!

Actually you can fly it if you are connecting to any international flight. Doesnt not have to connect with a QF flight. I was going to fly it and connect with LAN to LIM. But the fare is very expensive. Was an extra $1,000 to fly this flight versus J on AA.

They do this for pilot training and the T7 as a 'replacement aircraft' just in case they need it pronto....at least they used to coz I flew it late last year.

No you cannot. You'd have to be on transit from Australia. I believe the LAX-JFK QF flight is fed by morning incoming Oneworld flights thus is usually full.

Lucky bastard.... and I got stuck with a 757 on the same route  banghead

UA used to fully utilize their early arrivals to LAX and SFO 747's by making LAX-ORD, LAX-DEN, SFO-ORD and SFO-DEN runs. It's my understanding they no longer do that but I stand to be corrected.

About 4 years ago I flew on a CP 777 IAH-EWR that was continuing to FRA. That was a sweet ride coz it's the only time I've been on a CO 777 and I loved it. UA and UA T7's don't compare in my opinion.

I can't think, it's too damn early.. I meant a CO 777 not CP. Also, UA and AA T7's cannot compare, not UA and UA... lol

No only transiting to an international flight does not have to be another QF flight.

I guess I didn't phrase that well. The LAX-JFK QF flight is fed by inbound interanation LAX Oneworld flights.... and vice versa.

UA operated a number of 747/777 flights this past summer. Here are the ones I rode aboard:

UA256 & UA259 ORD-DEN B777
UA831 ORD-SFO B777
UA720 SFO-DEN B777
UA256 DEN-ORD B777
UA936 ORD-IAD B777
UA937 IAD-ORD B777

UA595 DEN-SFO B747

All these aircraft were in the international 3 class configurations. I made a special point to travel through DEN on my way out to SFO just to ride on the B747 again. The flight was definitely not a disappointment!! I am pretty sure that this was the only scheduled domestic B747 service this past summer. I would assume that UA was able to put a B747 on this route because it probably arrives from Asia in the early afternoon and does a SFO-DEN-SFO turn before departing for another international destination later that night. Anyone have an idea where it arrived from in the AM and departed in the evening???

The NRT-SFO B744 arrives around 9:30am in SFO so that could be it.

That could be it. I know that the SFO-DEN leg departed SFO around noon and arrived back in SFO at 7:00pm. Perhaps that aircraft is the SYD departure later that night.

During the summer UA has a lot of 777 domestic flights out of Denver, and also during the summer DEN-SFO is operated by a 747-400.

If I'm not mistaken you may be able to book on this flight if using FF miles as its not revenue--of course I could be wrong.

I'm not sure if they still do, but UA has had a 772 on DEN-SEA, which I believe continues to NRT. There's some photos in the db of 744s subbing on this route as well. I seem to recall some ORD-SEA runs with 772s as well, but those may have all been aircraft substitutions.
