Korean Air To LAS!

Sat Feb 25, 2006 2:54 pm

Korean Air has announced 777-200 service from Incheon to Las Vegas today. Service is planned to start in about 6 months. Currently, KAL operates charter service only to LAS. Their scheduled service will be welcomed!

That's great to hear.

Something that surprises me is that there is no direct service from Hong Kong/Singapore/Mainland China to Vegas. Chinese culture is very open to gambling and there are always many Chinese gaming tourists. Even at the casinos in KTM it's flooded with toruist from these three countries.

Awfully far away to go gambling unless you are a wealthy high roller, and then there might be better places to go.

In the World Series of Poker you see and hear a lot of Korean, Chinese players. I dont know if this will be extreamly profitable but would be nice to see how this will all turn out.

LAS service could steam-up as an extention segment of Korean's current three weekly B772 service between lncheon and Vancouver.

There are strong rumors of JAL abandoning its Vancouver to Las Vegas segment.

There's another strong rumor tonight in Vancouver about Singapore Airline who maybe ready to suspend indefinitely its three weekly B772 Singapore to Incheon to Vancouver in few months time. In that case scenario you may see Korean increassing its own Incheon to Vancouver (to Las Vegas) from current three to five weekly!

It's actually Phillipeans Air that does the YVR-LAS route.

By the way, why through YVR? I understand the concept of doubling up desitinations to help fill planes, but why YVR? Are OAK, SJC, PDX, SEA, SAN, RNO (that's a stretch I know), SLC, and PHX not viable options to provide the same kind of service? Is it related to going through an extra country? I'm curious about that.

I'd see this as a good possibility for the start. Once yields and loads on the LAS sector are good enough, then the flight could be upgraded to nonstop.

Didn't JL already axe the Vegas flights?

The US don't allow cabotage at the moment (foreign carriers picking up traffic on domestic routes).

``We are considering direct flights. But according to demand, we may be able to stop over in Los Angeles and carry more passengers from that city to Korea,'' the 64-year-old president said.

He added airlines cannot earn enough by operating flights only to tourism destinations and need business passengers to make up the deficit. He said the company will fly to more destinations where people can enjoy tourism and do business."

From the KE President as quoted in the Korea Times newspaper:

What the hell? Seriously? I don't think so, every SQ flight i've been on to YVR has had excellent yeilds on it. At least 70% full.
However it'd be interesting to fly Korean...
