UAL And TED Question

Mon Feb 27, 2006 11:15 pm

Hey guys:

I have kind of an odd question. I read a post awhile back that the pilots who fly the Song aircraft are DL pilots and so I was wondering about United and TED. Are the pilots the same for both there as well and also how about the flight attendants? Do UA flight attendants sometimes work TED flights?

I have always wondered about this since UA came out with TED and DL came out with Song.

Thanks for your help.

Ted and UA pilots and F/A's are one in the same. Just depends on the bid they get. Song however is flown by furloughed F/A's for the most part. Pilots tho are DL regardless.

Sean:

Thanks for that information. I sort of thought that might be the case with UA and Ted but I wasn't sure.

So unlike DL and Song, UA and Ted crew wear the same uniforms?

Thanks!

One of the benefits to having the TED and mainline as the same crews, you can a/c sub. when needed. If a TED bus is down for mtc. the company can send a 757/737/319 or sometimes even a 777 to fill the TED spot in the schedule. I know the company prefers to keep the TED fleet in the TED markets but disruptions do happen and this makes it easier for everyone. Keeps flight from being cancelled due to these issues and that keeps the people happy.

Does anyone think that United will follow Delta's footsteps with Song and merge Ted back into mainline United? Or is Ted performing ok for United?

I believe when this has been discussed before that Ted is doing what United wanted it to do, and they have no plans merge anything back to Mainline. If I recall, they have been doing a lot of converting in the last year or so.

Converting these planes back would be somewhat costly. We have taken out first class seating. We have taken out 3 ovens, We have taken part of the galley out. I think it is here to stay!
