Delta New Domestic Interior?

Mon Feb 27, 2006 11:38 pm

Hi all,
I just flew from RNO to ATL and the 757 had leather seats and an all new interior. The seat number panels were new and it looked sorta like the song interior just navy blue. Does anyone know what this is?

This is Delta's new domestic interior minus PTVs (which will be going online over the next year in the 757s).

I did hear however the mods on the -88s are being stopped as there were too many write-ups on the new interior birds, not sure what truth there is...someone from Delta can clear it up.

I was on one of the remodeled MD88 (N982DL)... looked pretty good with the navy blue leather seats.

So far, these new interiors have been done on some MD-88s, 757-200s, and domestic 767-300s. I have also heard somewhere that some MD-90s were done as well.

Why aren't there any photos of the new interiors for the 757s and domestic 767-300s? I have flown on one of the 757s with the new interior, but it is strange how none are loaded.

What I mean is that there's a rumor going around the mods on the MD88 a/c have been temporarily stopped as QC measures weren't being met...again, just what an F/A mentioned. Could be unfounded...

Some MD90s are in fact done. Was on one MSY-CVG in November...they're comfy birds. the MD90 seems wider to me than the -88 even though they're the same...

The rumor about the 88 mods is wrong. True we aren't doing 88's on the dedicated mod line right now. The line only does one type at a time. Right now they are doing 738's. They are also doing the ex-shuttle to mainline conversion for this type. The mod line is only going to do the aircraft that will not be in for a Heavy Overhaul in the near future. I think we have done about half of the 88 fleet. The rest will get done as they come up for overhaul.

Thanks for the clarity DALMD88 - interesting that they're redoing the 738s already - non shuttle a/c too?

What do the new F seats look like on the 757 and 738?

Also - why no winged headrests? They more than make up for the lack of pillows...

The F seats look the same on the 757 and I'm sure on the 738. Winged headrests? Not sure, but I'm sure it would be nice to have. I never used them, but would certainly be nicer to have, I'm sure.

I have been on the MD-88's, 757's, and 763's with them and they are nice, although when it comes to FC, I prefer the old leather and cloth seats. They were just a little more plush when you sat down.

Otto - they're great when they're the solid/firm ones. I wasn't too impressed with the version on the 764 fleet, they seemed less hmm rigid (wouldn't hold in place) but it could have been just the seats I was seated in.

They were a little more comfortable, but that could be a result of age. Hopefully as the leather seats get a little more 'used,' they'll be just as comfy.

Since January I have been on DL's M88 with the new interior on all 5 of my M88 segments and on 2 of my 3 763 segments. I find the new seats to be comfortable in coach and the 763 in F class last weekend was very comfortable. They would be nicer though if they had the wing backed head rests.

That's my biggest gripe about Delta's retrofit. I love the winged headrests when I experienced them on my Continental flights.

I would but since every other airline is perfect, I have to fly on the only one that has imperfections! What would I bitch about otherwise?

However, Otto - while on the bandwagon, I wish they would bring back the Cheese on Wheat Lance crackers instead of the current Grilled Cheese lance crackers. Altho, like everyone I was happy to see "Biscoff is back, and bigger than ever!"

Agreed. I loved the Cheese on Wheat as compared to the Grilled Cheese. It appears they will mix up everything now and then to keep it spiced up. I missed the Cheese Chips and Sunchips. As far as the Biscoffs, YES!! Love the new ones, huge and with a big widget on the side. When I first saw them brought around, I wondered, "Where did someone find this, this can't be right?" I think the seats in the F cabin look the best in the two tone... They should have done all the coach seats like this. The all blue looks a little drab in coach. They should have done it like the Shuttle America ERJ 170s. That is a beautiful looking interior, with the two toned leather and the slim back seats.

And why are the MD-90 first class seats all one color, when the 757s, MD-88s and 763s in the two tone? Kind of boring!

Oh and one other thing I forgot, The new BE cabins are all leather, but they are all the dark blue, and not the nice two tone  Sad Kind of a drab look compared to the cloth and leather they had before. I don't mind the all-leather seats, but they need to be two toned for a better look. Also, the plane I was on had the new look up front, but from what I could tell, coach still had the cloth seats.

Can someone clarify this to me :

Why would an airline in such financial trouble (as I heard, unless it has changed already) change the interior of its fleet ???

This upgrade was started before Chpt 11. The interiors were looking very beat and were in need of a change. It is also not uncommon for an airline to make changes like this while in Chapt 11. Upgrading the image to the public is very important at a time like this. Think of how many airlines have come out with new liveries during Chapt 11. I think that is also coming as we get closer to exiting Chapt 11. Within a year the oldest flag liveries will be due for repaint. Jerry has always said he hates it so it could be his final mark as he turns over the operation.

Which is a shame. I actually like the flag livery. I personally think Delta needs to stick with a look for once given how many livery changes in the last 6 years or so? Must say, I'm glad they put the proper widget back on the jets.

On the Lather note...really like the new products...it was time for a change...L'Occitane had been around for the better part of 6 years...

Livery change is just speculaction. Jerry has never been fond of the current one, and many of the employees don't like it. Many airlines on exiting chapter 11 want to put a fresh face on the operation. Changing the livery is a common tactic.

Although unlikely, I really hope the 767-400ERs and 777s keep the winged headrests. Those aircraft IMO don't really need much of an interor upgrade overall. I could see the yellowish-looking No Smoking/Fasten Seat belt signs replaced by the fluorescent white ones, although the 767-400ER already has the fluorescent white lights for the lavatory signs.

What I would REALLY like to see installed on the 767-400ERs and 777-200ERs is mood lighting. Some of the newer 777s and the 787 has it, and it IMO would go great on Delta's planes. Red lighting can be used for morning flights, white lighting for daytime flights, orange lighting for evening flighs, blue lighting for overnight flights, and purple lighting for stormy flights. I wish someone can request this suggestion to Delta.
