RAM To Start New African Airline

Tue Feb 28, 2006 2:30 am

Moroccan national airline Royal Air Maroc (RAM) will contribute to the setting up of Air Gabon International and provide it with the marketing, technical and economic means for the maximal operation of the company.

After reading the full article it is difficult to determine if this a whole new airline (as the first paragraph and title suggests) or if it is an attempt at improving the "old" Air Gabon.

I hope this means new a/c for Air Gabon. Perhaps they will take care of them this time...

I'm pretty sure it's a new airline since improving the old airline would likely involve taking on all the assets and employees. RAM wanted to start an airline roughly replicating Air Afrique's network in the CEMAC region but settled on just Gabon after inter-government squabbling. RAM is also behind Air Senegal International.

Who operates the flight listed below? Is it RAM metal? The 757 caught my eye. I am not able to find any info about Air Gabon operating this a/c.

Good to hear whats new with RAM  Smile But will this spell the end for the 752? I remember the govt in Maurtania (correct me if im wrong) wanted RAM to help out Air Maurtanie.

Also why do they have a 744? What routes except maybe
Paris warrant this large of a aircraft? Is it sometimes VIP used?

No idea, but this month it is flying between ORY and CMN and RAK only twice a week. A couple months ago it was flying between RAK and MXP and BRU twice a week. I'd like to know myself what the plan is with the 744.

They're starting a brand new airline called Air Gabon International (Just like Air Senegal International). Since the Air Cemac project is ony stand-by right now, RAM is after Air Mauritanie and Air Cameroon.

Other than that, I read in Le Figaro that they are also planning on Expanding beyond french-speaking africa. Opening flights to to lagos, Accra and Guinea in early 2007.
