Horizon Airlines

Does anbyone know if Horizon still operates the Metro 3's.

Yes they still use Metro 3's on there portland-pasco and a few portland-seatac filghts

I thought Horizon retired all of their Metros two or three years ago.
There was an article on the last Horizon Metro flight in the July/August '98 Airliners mag.

I E-mailed the Horizon commander at pdx and he said they only use them for back up's sorry

777YYC & We're Nuts, Correct.

Horizon has successfully limited their fleet, now only having 2 a/c types. F24 & DH8. These can carry between 30-60 or so passengers. Not to familiar with the Metro 3, is it larger or smaller?

FYI- Harbor Air now covers very marginal routes for Horizon/Alaska. Flying out of SEA and PDX, they use 9 passenger Cessna Grand Caravans.

The Metro 3 is a 19 passenger prop airliner, 19 because that's the max you can opertate without a F/A. It's similar to the B1900.

I see Harbor Air all the time flying over B.I.

They only have F-28s and Dash 8-100s.

I used to see the Harbor Air cessna's overhead too, I lived on the Oregon coast. I've never flown on one though. Nice looking small a/c

However, a long time ago I did fly on one of Horizon's old small props. Though I don't remember what the a/c was. I want to say a Brazillia, but it could have actually been a metro3, about 19 passangers if I remember correctly, very crampt, back row was 3 seats.

You know what other a/c Horizon used to fly? BTW, where is B.I.?

Horizon also flies the Fokker F-28-4000 Fellowship and the DHC-8-100 and DHC-8-300.

B.I. is Bainbridge Island, just off of Seattle... to the west, it kind of looks like Abe Lincoln's head

Here's the 411 for ya from a Horizon mechanic...hope this eliminates the confusion and helps the original topic to be answered.

-NO more Metros...since early 1998, PDX-PSC is served with DHC-8 100's or the Q200's. PDX-SEA is the F28 4000 or either verison or the Dashes.
-We've never had Brasillias...must have been a D0328, similar seating config to the EMB120, or the Metro as you say.
-NO DHC-8 300's EVER....only 100 and Q200 models and US launch customer for Q400 model this Fall.
-ALSO NOW, thanks to American Eagle swapping out...we're launch customer for the the CRJ-700 RJ also starting this Fall.

At present we have, 22 F-28 Mk 4000 jets, 12 Dash-8/100's, and 28 Dash-8/Q200s. The F-28 4000's should all be gone and replaced by the DHC-8 Q400's and CRJ 700's by next October.

Boeing in Pdx, who is the Horizon Commander you emailed in Portland? Most of the big brass is in SEA.

Used to fly the Metro, F-27, F-28 Mk 1000, and the D0328.

Which routes will Horizon initiate the Q400? CRJ700?

I would imagine the EUG-SEA or PDX routes would be a good fit for the Q400, while the CRJ700 would be an acceptable replacement for the Fokker.

BTW, I live in EUG and may be flying the new EUG-LAX service later this year, what should I expect?

Well, without for sure knowing what the planners are going to do I can only assume that the CRJ 700 will replace for the most part our longer F-28 routes to start with...SEA-FAT, BOI-LAX, and the upcoming EUG-LAX. As for this year your trip to LAX would still probably be on the Fokker. I don't think the first CRJ(s) will be in revenue service until December or maybe even January. The Q400 will probably be used on the SEA-PDX-SEA shuttles at peak times (as the F28 is now) during the day when the 37 seat Q200's and 100's are filling up left and right. Also maybe the odd PDX-SEA GEG run. Although on that one the jet is popular because the competiton from WN is of course all jet service and most passengers like those jet engines on their planes for some reason. I don't know as EUG-PDX or SEA would be too good for the Q400, might have a few too many seats to make it worthwhile, maybe to SEA but like I said I really can only assume and don't know for sure where the schedulers are going to put the aicraft. Hope I was able to shed a little light for ya!
