Cork (ORK) New Terminal

Tue Feb 28, 2006 6:58 pm

Hi All,

I was at ORK on Saturday, and noticed that the new terminal looks very impressive. I love the green tinted glass, as well as the wook pannelling on the exterior of the building. If my memory serves me right, I only spotted 4 airbridges. Is this sufficient? On Saturday, there were 3 Futura 737's a BMI Baby, RE x 2 and FR and EIR. The Eirjet was parked up on stand 10, adjacent to the new terminal. fortunately the weather was perfect, but I would not be keen to walk from the gate up to Stand 10 if it was lashing rain!! Surely some more airbridges would be beneficial.

When is the terminal due to open anyway?

Cheers,
Mike

Thanks for that info. Is the current (old) terminal going to be demolished?

There are 4? I was under the impression that provision had only been made for 3, of which only one is in place at the moment?

I dont think its clear at the moment. I believe that the new terminal got planning permission transfered from the old one and that in effect, the old terminal will need new certs if it is to reopen (not that difficult actually). Ryanair are lobbying for the old terminal to be used for LCCs only. There is a lot of controversy over the new terminal because its over budget, late, has insufficient space for expansion, etc

Hi 321,

Thanks for the info!!

Yes as we were taxiing past, I could have sworn there were 4 (which are in place). HOWEVER, my buddy Jack Daniels may have had a more critical impact on my vision than I originally envisaged thus rendering my sight faulty!!! He's very bold and gets me into all sorts of trouble!  Smile

I stand corrected though, perhaps some Rebel's could clear this up!!
