What Happened To BMI's Plans For 8x A330

Wed Mar 01, 2006 7:11 am

http://www.flybmi.com/bmi/en-gb/abou...ressreleases.aspx?year=2000&rid=20

All those years ago BMI applied and was award permission to fly to New York, DC, Boston and Miami.

In the end Ive seen 3x A330 and the odd 757 / 767 replacement.

The article said they had a firm order for 4x A330 with options on 4 more.

I assume BMI use 1xA330 on Mid-East and another on Mumbai.
So the third does the caribean ?

Do they still do Chicago and Las Vegas / How often ?
So far in 2008 45 flights and Gold already. JFK, IAD, LGA, SIN, HKG, NRT, AKL, PPT, LAX still to book ! Home Airport LCY

I saw their 4th A330 on the line at Toulouse - it actually had the tail painted in the bmi colours. However, it never got delivered and is now in service with Emirates. There's been talk of this one coming back to bmi but it hasn't materialised.

From the reseach I've just done, it seems that A330 G-WWBM and G-WWBB are leased from ILFC (for 96 months) and G-WWBD is owned by MALC Aviation, which is from what I can see a Middle East lessor - or at least, funds come from the Middle East.

BMI have no orders or options outstanding for A330s.

bmi have to arrest their poor performance (see the thread about their 53% load factor) before they really think of adding any new longhaul services, let alone longhaul aircraft at all...

bmi longhaul (winter timetable)

MAN - ORD daily A332
MAN - LAS 2 times weekly A332*
MAN - ANU 1 time weekly A332*
MAN - BGI 3 times weekly A332*
LHR - BOM 4 times weekly A332
LHR - RUH 3 times weekly A332*

*"From 8 February to 20 April a TUI Boeing 767 aircraft (Arkefly) will operate on services to Antigua, Barbados and Las Vegas. From 21 April the aircraft will then operate on services to Riyadh and eventually on Jeddah. Our inflight product may vary from our normal service..." from fly bmi.com
7late7, A3latey, Sukhoi Superlate... what's going on?

One of the A330's is ex-Emirates (A6-EAS)

Why didnt BMI just get the new one?!

Not quite. A6-EAS was delivered brand new to Emirates on 9th October 2003.

All BMI's A330s were delivered brand new to BMI. The star alliance aircraft was stored at MAN for what seemed like ages and then subleased to SAA for a while (flying routes to Paris CDG) and also operated flights for the Royal Air Force flying down to the Falkland Islands from Brize Norton before being put back into BMI service.
