My gosh, where did you earn all that? Are some of those transferred from other Star Alliance airlines?

that sounds very reasonable to me...especially for one of the best first class products in the world. definitely a good way to spend the miles. i recently used qf miles to book cx business hkg-lax and that was 104000 one way, which seemed on the high side but not excessive to me - for qf at least. but 140,000 for sq first return...now that's a deal  Wink

The Four Seasons HK ain't bad either. Oh, and there's that Peninsula Hotel too....I hear they'll pick you up in a Rolls Royce or something.

Peninsula is great for sure in term of first class hotel. It is a bit hot in early summer, may be u can go take a short visit to old "HKG" Kai Tak Airport site....

Enjoy your trip here.

cxtra seems to be missing the fact that DL uses the miles travelled System, QF uses the miles travelled into Points system, the pay with points system is always higher than pay with miles

and ofcourse, QF's greed with allocation of points and determining how many points are required for a redemption !

Actually the original Mandarin is closed for Renovation now. You can try the new Mandarin Oriental "Landmark" they recently opened, its a more modern boutique style hotel.

I'm not sure if you can get a five-star, but if you want a cheap fer four-star hotel (don't want to lay down lots of cash) go to www.priceline.com and get info at either www.biddingfortravel.com or www.betterbidding.com
What now?

Unfortunately, the Mandarin is closed for refurbishment until September.

The newly opened Four Seasons at the IFC (International Finance Centre) has had very good reviews.

Chech out my SQ FC trip reports:-

Carpethead,

SQ is a non-codeshare, non-alliance partner of DL. For 50k miles one-way you can upgrade from Y=>C or C=>F. Xtra1's trip report and pics are amazing.

The Conrad Hong Kong is great too. You'll love Hong Kong -- such an amazing city! (And SQ F isn't too shabby either!)  Smile

Another pleased DL flyer here. I just burned 320k for 2x EK F Class JFK-DXB with a stopover to Doha in F for a night. Also burned Amex points for a week at the Ritz Carlton Dubai Club Level and Ritz Carlton Doha Club Level. We're fully aware that we're spoiled rotten.

I would also recommend the Intercontinental on Salisbury Road in Tsim Sha Tsui as well.

one my favourates also Renaissance Kowloon (but make sure you go for the Club level). Not as luxurious, but really good service at the club concierge desk....you can get a suite for the price of a room at the other hotels mentioned above

I was just in Hong Kong last week, and stayed at the MetroPark hotel on Hong Kong Island in Causeway Bay for six nights. It was fantastic with breathtaking views of the skyscrapers and harbour. And it had free high-speed Internet.

If you book far enough in advance on the hotel's website (www.metroparkhotel.com), you get 50% off the rack rates. And, if you stay in the one of the Premier Executive suites, you get a large state-of-the-art room with glass walls and little lounge area, plus free breakfast every morning in the Panorama lounge (bacon, sausage, croissants, muffins, fruit, cereal, hard-boiled-eggs, juices, coffee, and interesting local breakfast types of foods) -- not to mention the gorgeous views of the city while you eat. You also get free happy hour every night, with all the drinks you can drink (at around 6pm-ish in the Panorama Lounge). Plus, the pool and hot-tub on the roof should be open by May. Gorgeous views!

Great service, great modern hotel, and great value! It's right at the "Tin Hau" MTR Subway station. From the moment the plane stopped at the gate, to my hotel room, it was only 80 minutes! (Thanks to the Airport Express).
