AA would do quite nicely to be able to claim in its DOT filing that it will not only be opening up a new Chinese city to AA flights, but it would also be opening up a new U.S. gateway for the service, especially because it is a gateway that provides more onward connections throughout the U.S. (in terms of flights per day) tha any other U.S. hub but ATL.
