AA Eagle Gates At DFW

Fri Mar 03, 2006 5:10 pm

Just in case anyone was wondering, I'll post this information. Eagle now operates in 4 distinct areas of DFW, and is in a transition to move to terminal B for all domestic flights, and Terminal D for aircraft arriving from or departing to international destinations (Nassau and Mexico). Eagle currently uses gates A9-A17, B2-B17, B33-B36, and various gates in D, including mostly D6-D21. I haven't seen Eagle use gates higher than D21. And Eagle regularly uses D15-D17, which LH and BA use.

In mid-January, Eagle closed the Satellite A2 terminal. There is no more bussing. Presently all the Saab 340s are at Gate A14-A16, and you walk down the jetbridge and then down the stairs onto the ramp. Tonight I arrived on Eagle 3214, and had the rare opportunity of walking on the DFW Terminal A ramp. Since Eagle uses covered boarding for such a high percentage of flights, it was a rare thrill to walk on the ramp at DFW!

Anyway, the last time I used gate B34, I was boarding Lufthansa for Frankfurt. The last time I used gate B33 was when I was boarding British Airways for Gatwick. Now if you board B33 through B36, you are boarding an Eagle flight. Eagle will almost completely control terminal B within the next few months. United is staying put, due to their Red Carpet Club at B29, and I think USAirways/America West are remaining in terminal B. I'm not sure about Mesa or Midwest. Once Eagle's gates are all built in B, Eagle will finally be completely out of terminal A. Fortunately, the new train system makes this change almost without any impact on the passengers, because it provides really easy access to all gates at DFW.
See, I knew American Eagle was first class all along!

Look at #35 and #36 on the agenda--selling 737 and F-100 simulators to AA. Why would the airport own them in the first place?

As per DFW maps. American Eagle is still in Terminal A and D with AA in B and C. I guess I will find out whats up tomorrow. I'm flying down to HOU and then by car to Galveston for 2 cruise ship inspections over the weekend. I'm not looking forward to DFW. The last time I was there I had to walk 6 miles for my conx. flight. Thanks for the info.

Have you been since SkyLink opened? You're in for a treat.

And you will likely be headed out of B if you are flying to HOU. I think only the Saab operations are going out of A.

Eagle is definitely now operating out of some of the high B gates. I was there a few months ago and saw them putting the signeage and gate displays up, and I just drove through the airport last week on my way to C, and saw Eagle RJs pulled up to the high B gates.

Have they set up AA/AE ticket counters in the high-B area?

That really good news to me. Bussing to those remote gates was always a hassle especially with a tight connection.
However, what happens with these unused gates now? Is there another carrier taking them?

There is no chance any other airline would take them. The gates are too small for basically anything under 50-60 seats, and, as already mentioned, busing from the terminal is inconvenient. Last I heard, the airport was thinking of turning this little satellite -- which is actually very nice inside -- into a new General Aviation Terminal. Seems like a perfect use to me.

There is a new elevated tram called Sky Link that links all the terminals and runs bi-directionly about every two minutes. (It sort of reminds me of DTW's train in the Northwest Treminal but it runs on the outside of the terminal buildings) I just connected there 2 weeks ago and again tonight, and I must say connecting at DFW was a breeze, not to mention the sky link train offers some amazing views of the airport.

More importantly, what does AA want with F-100 sims? They dumped those.

AA is not the only airline on earth flying the F100s. Airlines around the world -- likely including the airlines that now pay AA to maintain their former F100s, will pay AA large sums of money to use its simulators and training for its pilots. AA is probably keeping the F100 sim around because it is likely one of the few (if only) places in North America that will have an F100 sim. Same situation with the 707 -- AA is now one of the only companies in North America that has a 707 sim, so airlines (and John Travolta!) come in and pay AA very profitable amounts to use their sim.

The EMJs at A park at A9-A12 and A17. Saabs park inbetween with six parking spots.

I haven't looked but I will very soon. They have posted the signage, where at high B, now there are only signs for American Eagle and United. As soon as I check it out, I'll post it.

Yes I heard that too. Anyway the airport now controls the terminal, and it was very dark as I taxied by the other night!

If you haven't been to DFW since the Skylink came online, it is a completely new experience, and if you have an extra 15 minutes, it's great for plane spotting. Just make sure to take the counterclockwise (outside) train for the best views.

Here are some pictures I took of the B30-36 area while waiting for my luggage after a flight tonight.

The most amusing part was this sign. They just added American Eagle to the doorway (this is the B30 entrance). Yet they still show National here. They have been out of business since..2001?

And responding to the questions, here are two blurry shots of the small Eagle Counter that is already open and the future Eagle Counter at B30-36
