6 Airports Served By 10 Major U.S. Carriers

Sun Jun 04, 2000 10:22 am

I recently read an article which stated that only 6 airports were served by all 10 of the major U.S. airlines. I am having a hard time trying to figure them out.  Does anyone know which 6 airports they are??

That can't be it because Southwest serves neither JFK nor DEN, and they are one of the top 10 majors. Gimme a few minutes and I'll come up with something!

In the America's Worst Airline acticle in the July Airways, it says they are:
LAS
LAX
PHX
SAN
SFO
SEA

Kinda odd that they are all in the west.

I dunno for sure, but i would guess LAX, ORD, JFK (or LGA) DEN, SFO and DFW---other possible airports would be IAH/HOU, STL, SEA or BOS

Considering the top 10 are (in no particular order)

Alaska
American
America West
Continental
Delta
Northwest
Southwest
TWA
United
USAirways

Of course, Alaska is the stinger because of their West Coast only network.

I agree with 777YYC (I also read that article). However, SJC almost makes it. SJC gets nine  of the ten largest airlines (Alaska, American, America West, Continental, Delta, Northwest, Southwest, TWA, United, but not USAir). Only SFO gets USAir around here.

The US/UA websites say that SJC will get service to one or two of US's former hubs if the merger goes through. So maybe in the future US will serve SJC, albeit only symbolically as UA.

i think it is SEA,LAX,SFO,MIA,IAH,and DFW but it could go either way since WN only serves love field but other than that, i think its DFW

before anyone else decides to write in with their guess of americas biggest and busiest hub airports because they have lots of aircraft movements so it must be them.

don't do it.

It's not JFK, ORD, DFW, IAH, ATL, MIA or any other city east of PHX.

Alaska Does not fly east of Arizona so how can it be.
Think about it.
Just because the computer is in front of you it doesn't mean you have to use it to make a "Guess"

Alaska does fly east of Pheonix (seasonally to ORD), but it doesn't matter because WN doesn't fly there.
