JAT '3-dots'-livery Design. How Is It Doing?

Sun Mar 05, 2006 6:19 am

After a design contest JAT Airways finally choosed for the "3 dots livery". How is JAT dealing with it, are they still pleased with the design? In the Airliners.net photo files I see soo many white JAT Airways aircraft and just 1 aircraft in full livery (YU-ANJ). Is there a lack of fundings to paint the planes in full c/s, are those white aircraft on lease or is JAT in the middle of another re-design process?

I really dislike their current scheme- their old scheme was much classier IMO. The fact that they have just one a/c in the new scheme leads me to believe that another change may be iminent..

I don't think anybody likes that kindergarten 'livery', so it's most unlikely that JAT like it themselves.

That is probably not true. JAT just never bothers to paint their aircraft. Their MD80 that does the SJJ route hasn't been painted since the route started. It's typical of their attitude of not giving a damn about much of anything.

lol KLM

well there was a thread a year or so ago about a new soon-to-be-adopted JAT Airways livery (which looked pretty nice). I guess JAT just doesnt' care about spending some money on painting their planes.

BTW. the current clown dot "paintscheme" on that 737 has to be one of the ugliest liveries ever.

I could have sworn I saw a picture of a JAT 737 somewhere with a bunch of dots, like on some drawings on the JAT website.

Pure class! With regard to their service, I've flown them quite a few times on their BEY-DAM-BEG-LHR route on their 733 and 727. We were served a meal on each segment (apart from BEY-DAM) which consisted of cold meat and cheese. On the Beirut-Damascus hop, the crew came down the aisles with trays of orange juice (it's a 20 minute service). The flights were near empty- I counted 16 people in Economy and 1 person in Business.
On take off, the cabin crew at the rear of the aircraft lit up their ciggys and sat chatting in the galley. Not that I mind, as I'm a smoker myself!

Belgrade airport may be fine for an hour or so, but we were stuck there for 7 hours. Freezing, lack of windows, cold and hollow, with 3 shops- the only food or drink outlet there refused to accept my dollars or sterling, so we ended up drinking the tap water from the sinks in the toilets. There was absolutely nothing to do- an empty soviet style block.

Saying that, their fares are quite often extremely cheap and you get what you pay for these days.

BEG has also been renovated recently with new facilities in the international terminal so it is much more pleasant these days.
however for 7 hours, there is not much to do except get on the JAT bus and go and so some sight seeing.

They are still deciding regarding the livery since nothing has happened, but the three dots are definately gone (yu-anj is now white with only the small front titles). There was a new livery posted as being chosen in jat magazine last year that is much more colourful and professional looking (probably the one you are thinking of un-b732) but whether this will be applied to the planes remains to be seen  Smile

but as BEG2IAH has already said, there is a lot happening with jat, this year will definately be a big year for them, hopefully returning to their former glory

Apparently, some big shot didn't like it, I guess.

Three dots are history now. Only one plane (YU-ANJ) had that livery and the "famous" dots were repainted with, guess what? Fresh new layer of white color.

The lack of any kind of livery does bother me and I do hope it will change. Once again, general menager of JAT announced the return of JAT to JFK and YYZ as of May with 762 (apparently, some crews are sent over to Sweden for additional training) and I do hope that management will find some solution for livery by that time. It would look very pathetic to see all-white 767s flying accross Atlantic.

The livery that was proposed a year ago looks nice, but not a single plane was painted in that livery so far and it makes me believe that it is still yet another empty promise from JAT's PR department.

I remember a while ago on here someone posted a picture of what was supposedly yet another new JAT livery... why were the aircraft never repainted into it? Anyone have access to the photo?

According to the latest interview of JAT's CEO, they are planning to return to ORD by the end of the year, when the second 767 joins in, but it remains to be seen when and if will JAT even start flying over the Atlantic again.

LOL how can anybody take this airline serious?  silly

Can they make up their mind about routes, aircraft or livery?

I would like to see CRJ-700's/E-170's and A32X/73S arrive but once again this is JAT so I dont know  confused

You don't just make your mind about routes. Serbia was subjected to a series of economic sanctions, and lost bunch of routes and markets. You don't just get back where you were. Others were developing while JAT was being killed by all means. In order to fly to the USA, Serbia needs to get back to Category 1 status, and besides technical issues that are minor, it's a lot of politics. But since DynCorp builds a cargo terminal at BEG, Serbia could see this problem solved.

I would like to see CRJ-700's/E-170's and A32X/73S arrive but once again this is JAT so I dont know

I agree that CRJ-700/E-170 story is messy, and JAT might be responsible for it. When it comes to Airbus, that contract was made by ex communist regime, and Airbus knows it and couldn't care less. Latest news says that it's shed to 4 A318s instead of 8 A319s, but I sure hope JAT will go with 4 A319s if it has to deal with Airbus.

We all have wishes, but these guys in JAT are supposed to reinvent once very successul company that needs to enter very different environment and very different markets. JAT was clinically dead for quite a while, and it's miracle they still exist.

I'm very glad that moderators took care of a few ugly posts that got erased (along with my reply to them). We should base our discussions solely on facts.

Chances are JAT will go for additional 737-400s instead of A319/18s. As for BEG the airport has gone through major renovation since March '04. I was there in November and it looks much much better. I certainly hope they choose a nice colorful livery.

If they ask me for an opinion, the best short-term solution is to get some 737-400 (not more than one or two more) and some 737-500s (not more than three). It is not the perfect solution, but it might be the best and the cheapest for the airline that is already in bad enough financial situation.
