Man Sick, Flight Diverts To Winnipeg

Mon Mar 06, 2006 8:16 pm

I read a news article a few days ago about a man, searching for information on his father who died on a flight from California to India. The plane was diverted to Winnipeg, but the man still died. I tried a search here, and found no additional information

Not to be rude, but stuff like this happens all the time, and it seems like every time anything little it happens, someone runs here and starts a thread about. While I sympathize with the sick man, and hope he feels better, this is starting to get annoying.

The reason I'm questioning this one is simple - the airline, Lufthansa, will not give the family any information

I am not sure exactly what LH could advise the family apart from they were a passenger when they boarded, and they diverted. The factual medical reasons would not be know by the airline, they may know of the symptoms which lead to the diversion, maybe a preliminary diagnosis by a doctor onboard.

The actual medical history would in my view be privileged, and would be available from the Canadian authorities via the proper channels.

I dont believe this is a thread that needs to carry on, as the other comments suggest, even though I have every sympathy with the family concerned it is a common occurance and should be left with the family concerned to deal with and not a discussion on here, especially as there is so little information to discuss.

What info can they give him that will help?

He was on our flight.
He got sick.
We don't staff medical doctors on our planes.
We diverted and handed him over to the Canadians.
He died later but not on our plane.

End of story. This guy needs to talk to the Canadians.
