Emirates Double Daily To Hamburg

Mon Mar 06, 2006 8:22 pm

Waow... they just launched the service 6 days ago and they have already announced that they will go double daily on their newly launched Hamburg Service.... Not only that ... EK has also announced that they will sponsor the local Soccer Team of Hamburg with a multi million sponsorship deal...

Lufthansa??? Should it be afraid?

Emirates is currently offering some killer fares from Hamburg, actually I wanted to fly to Tehran for 381 EUR incl. taxes (!!!) but I think it isn't a good idea to go to Iran currently so I think I will take advantage of the special fare to Shanghai.

Here are all offers:

What planes will they fly on the two HAM flights? Interesting to see that they first postponed the HAM service due to plane shortage and now made it two dailies.

But it's true BestWestern, I really don't see what all the fuss is. The EK Business class seat is nothing special at all and at the end of the day, neither is their First Class sleeper, which is actually in rather bad taste, unless you enjoy the sight of gold colored plastic that is.

In Economy, I admit that the inflight entertainment is pretty good and the Economy meals may be pretty oppulent. However, what EK has repeatedly failed to understand, and which has even already been addressed by their CEO, is that the size of the the meals, seat comfort and the selection of inflight entertainment are just not good enough if you have an armada of staff who look and act as if basically, they couldn't care less. At least that's the impression I've always got with EK.

From what I read, the load factor is already around 90% booked for the next few weeks.
The aircraft they are using is an A330. And according to the papers flying with EK to Australia knocks off 8 hours travel time from Hamburg....

That's exactly the point - EK offers one stop service to Australia from many secondary airports in Europe. Make it about 4 hours less when conncting to QF in FRA, but still, they are much faster than most other connections.

Besides that, 7 abreast seating in C in an A340/332 (not the 500s,OK) is not that exciting, especially when the planes are full. Concerning the "crap" I prefer the elegance and modern design of SK and OS C classes over the indeed tasteless cabin (and Hotel) furnishing designs in the UAE, These guys must believe that Louis IV is still the trend in Europe.

From 29th Oktober 2006 the A330 will be changed to 77W on Monday and Wednesday and 772 on the other days according to the "old" schedule (just one flight daily). Don´t know how this is going to be changed with two daily flights.

Amazing... Simply amazing... the loads, the growth, the fares.  crazy

2600€ for a return in c-class to Australia is for sure a benchmark price. I can't wait to see LH's reaction on such fares.  banghead

Doesn't EK's success in HAM also have something to do with Iran ?? I always heard there was a huge Iranian community in Hamburg. Hence IR's flights from HAM.

You know what's even better?

Buy a Business Class ticket to Auckland for 2811 EUR and get 35.563 miles for the trip, then buy another 5.000 miles for just 125 USD and voila, you have additionally a free return flight from HAM to DXB.

Too bad that I can't afford the C-Class flight to AKL. ;(

You can, I just looked for some random dates in May and got a 2,647.14 EUR Business Class fare for HAM-DXB-SYD and return (DXB-SYD-DXB operated by the A345 nonstop flight).

I have to correct myself, of course brings you 40.000 miles further than just to DXB, traveling to BAH and DOH is also possible for the same amount of miles.

Thanks for the correction Patrick because I always imagined that travelling with the A345 service to Down Under with EK was only possible with an extra charge... This makes the fare even more attracticve.

From reading the article, it appears to me that EK are just saying they will probably go 2x daily to HAM in the future. They have not said, "We are increasing our daily Hamburg flight to 2x daily starting on xx/xx/xx." They are probably just looking into it just now, sorting out aircraft etc.

I'm not saying it won't happen, as it most definately will. After all, its EK we're talking about. I'd just be very surprised if 2x daily was introduced before the service has ran for a year or so.

Agreed that some of the interiors are a little overpowering but that aside the business and first cabins are very good. Having just come back from DXB on EK in business I can say this without question as the experience is still fresh in my mind. I'm assuming you have flown EK in business and first, if not your opinion is really pretty worthless.

I started a thread last week about EK's sports sponsorships worldwide, ini it I showed surprise that EK did not sposnor any major German team given the importance of Germany to their business. I guess the new Hamburg jersey will fill that void.

HAM will upgrade to a 777 from October 2006.

5 of the weekly flights will operate with the B777-200ER whilst 2 of the weekly flights will operate with the B777-300ER. The B77W that will be used will be the same aircraft that will operate the non-stop JFK EK203/204 service and will feature Emirates upcoming new J class product which will have flat beds.

The primary reason for the acft upgrade to 777 from 330 is cargo but i am sure pax traffic will have grown by then.

I just booked HAM-DXB (2 day stopover) -PVG (5 day stay) -DXB-HAM for just 511,50 EUR per person.

The DXB-PVG-DXB flights are operated with the 777-300ER which means that I can look forward to a jumbo sized PTV with 100 on-demand movies, 50 TV channels, 350 audio channels, 40 games, as well as SMS and eMail function.  cheerful

Good deal if you ask me.

Is there any other widebody HAM service outside of EK? When i was there last summer, all I saw were 737s, 757s, A32Xs and smaller jets and props. But that was morning from 7am - 10am, so maybe larger jets come in in the afternoon?

Over the summer there was the Air Transat A310 that came from YYZ (once or twice a week?).
Then a few charters and aircraft going to LHT, but I can't think of any widebodies otherwise.

Why? Because they offer cheap fares and a great Eco Class product?

I just looked just for fun on the Lufthansa website what fares they have to offer, result: The cheapest HAM-FRA/MUC-PVG return flight costs 994 EUR on exactly the same dates.

I paid 511,50 EUR with EK and have additionally a two-day stopover in DXB where I just booked a room in the Sheraton Deira Hotel for ~150 EUR per night for my girlfriend and me.

Result: Even with two nights in a hotel in Dubai is EK still cheaper than LH.

I am looking forward to my flights on EK, the Eco Class of the 773ER's is looking fantastic and the entertainment features even put other airlines' Business Classes into shame!

you see mostly this kind of fares, the nonstop will be mostly cheaper.

for example you will get mostly cheaper fares when you travel on LH FRA-MUC-JFK and back than if you book on the nonstop flights, I think it is based on yield-management, and regarding that the airline needs or will get access on the market route....

Yeah EK on the LHR-DXB-LHR and the diabolical AC888 to/from Ottawa. The state of the birds AC use on YOW-LHR is just outrageous. There was couples travelling with a very small infants and the aircraft did not have enough cotts on board.  Sad

EK was good as usual, I have very little complaints as far as EK goes. Although I have noticed a subtle drop in service and morale over the years.

Are they planning on updating the rest of the fleet with the A345 interiors or even the 777LR interiors?

You folks seem to have a lot of info regarding EK...could someone please answer the above question for me? Thanks

Go for it! Nice city (I think, looking forward to be there in May) and a lot of miles for such a cheap flight (assumed you get 100% miles credit).

great...thanks for the info...and I would get the 100% miles credit.... Smile

for example you will get mostly cheaper fares when you travel on LH FRA-MUC-JFK and back than if you book on the nonstop flights

I ´ve observed exactly the opposite. First, you try to fly direct which is cheaper. If LH has no seat for you, they´ll route you onestop, mostly more expensive.
Exceptions confirm the rule.

no disagree, another example AA, trips with more stops are cheaper, the nonstops are "normally" more expensiver.
