Low-fare airline to add flights Long Beach-Sacramento, Burbank-Orlando, FL and Burbank-Las Vegas

NEW YORK, (March 7, 2006) - JetBlue Airways (Nasdaq: JBLU) today announces new destinations from Southern California, featuring its award-winning service, 36 channels of DIRECTV programming and roomy, all-leather seats. .JetBlue will introduce service between: Long Beach, CA and Sacramento, CA, effective May 3; and starting June 30, between Burbank, CA and Orlando, FL; and Burbank and Las Vegas, NV.

I thought the expansion would be short-to-medium-length routes once the 190's came online. I've still yet to see evidence of that. Am I the only one that remembers B6 saying that when they announced the 190 order??

The press release doesn't indicate an aircraft. Would it be safe to say that all of these flights are operated with A320 equipment?

This is good news for SoCal. I'm not surprised at the LGB-SMF flights. But I am surprised at the BUR-LAS flights...direct competition with WN.

Good luck B6!

Wow, the BUR-LAS will be the first B6 vs. WN head to head competition. I wonder what made B6 choose this route as the first one to take on WN?

The BUR-LAS competing with WN isn't much since B6 has one flight and WN has many more on the route. The new route won't cause any friction between the two.

But anyway, all the new routes have flight numbers that are not in the 1000's, so as a given, the new flights will be A320 flights.

They probably aren't adding new 190 routes just yet incase something else screws up with them, they can't have any more problems with the planes not being ready, so they will probably just wait until they know they will have them in and ready for when they need them. New 190 routes will probably be announced in the summer for routes starting in the fall.

LGB-SMF will hopefully do great for them and I can see them staying with it for a while. I do not see a third flight soon though, b/c I think 2X is what it can handle, but it should do great.

I can feel that a BUR-FLL is not to far off since B6 will most likely be able to use HP's old gate in FLL which will allow for more B6 flights. They probably have to wait on that for now though just to make sure everything is set with that. But more BUR expansion is a given since they have access to now A7 A8 and A9 there. That mean that B6 can handle about 27 flights a day. They will have 5X JFK, 1X LAS, 1X MCO so basically they have 7 flights a day, so that is not even enough to fill one Gate techincally speaking since they get 9 flights a day per gate. I see a ton more of BUR Flights coming on and possibly taking place as a new big LA airport for them unless LGB raises the amount of flights they can have.

I can see us getting grounds ops soon if they add 1 or 2 more flights.
LGB....where you can watch the grass grow because the traffic is so slow.

Sounds good to me. Finally they will be using an LA airport that is actually convenient to people in LA!

And I like that they are running a non-red-eye to MCO. Hopefully, the FLL will be daytime, too. I'd like to see BUR-IAH, but that's not likely (even though it's not served by anyone). And BUR-EWR would be nice, as would BUR-OAK and BUR-SEA.

Bring it on!

If you fly them, i will come...

I wonder what other cities are under the radar for B6's BUR market...

I guess that B6 loves a real challenge  box

Too bad the SMF flights have to go to LGB, not BUR. I'd be all over those in a second!

LGB-SMF was a complete shocker for me. I was expecting LGB-EWR for sure.

The 3 slots came from a variety of things. For starters, B6 is doing 6x this summer LGB-JFK, not 8x like last summer. Also, either LAS is going down one flight or OAK.

BUR-LAS was another complete surprise. However, after surveying the schedule, it makes complete sense for utilization purposes.

BUR-LAS is awesome, except for the times. 8:40pm departure from LAS? They do realize that check-out for most vegas hotels is around noon, right? I'm sure it's just to keep the aircraft "busy" while waiting in BUR to do the JFK red-eye, but there are many of us that would welcome a 2:00pm or so departure from LAS.

Sweet, good luck against Ted as well as HP, and WN into BWI, however with Independence gone there is less competition and seats to IAD from LAS.

As said it must be just to keep the aircraft moving, but unless they have some loyals from BUR as well as some in LAS I think jetBlue is in for an ass kickin with there prices so much higher and only one flight a day against well known WN that is going to have 13x n/s on LAS-BUR this summer.

There will be no ass kickin'. It's only 1 flight a day, and the people flying it will mostly be loyal B6 customers who just want to go to LAS for the weekend. Since JetBlue is only flying the route once a day, it's obvious that they aren't making a real "go" for the route. They won't have a problem filling up the 156 seats.

Also, the starting fare is $39 o/w. How is that "so much higher" than WN?

Looks like Reno has come out publicly saying they are on the "Radar" of the jetBlue expansion project.

From today's USAToday:

Airport officials also announced:

• They expect discount carrier JetBlue Airways to begin Reno-New York JFK service this year, based on conversations they've had with airline executives.

"We believe JetBlue is coming," Bart said. "We are on their expansion map. We've seen that."

The airline's customer service and reasonable fairs are coveted, she said.

"We could expect round-trip, New York-Reno fares of about $300 or less," she said.
