How does their pay compare to alternative employment.

Well, would you vote to outsource your job? That IS voting for alternative employment. I am angry that the reservations and ticket agents voted it in. This proposal is awful, and the drastic step of outsourcing all of the smaller stations was completely unnecessary. USAir and United didn't even propose this in their bankruptcy cases.

Wasn't the proposal for ramp work to be outsourced at only stations with less than 10 flights a day? How many jobs would that have been? Are you sure that UA & US already don't outsource at some stations. I think they do along with DL.

First, I would like to see the contract as this discussion needs some facts fast. Anyone have a link? (Yes, I know its not supposed to be out there on the net... but often is.)

This is a true statement. If the union contracts have put wages and benefits at a rate far greater than the going rate... this could get interesting fast.

UA outsources work at stations that are exclusively express. At stations where there is at least one mainline flight per day, it is UA mainline handling the flights.

US outsources most of the below the wing handling at the outstations, the only places where they are US employees are in the hubs/focus cities (I.E. BOS, LGA, PHL, PIT, CLT, LAS, PHX, DCA, etc) However the above the wing stuff (i.e. CS) I believe is still pretty much US.

I feel this was a stupid move. I saw the contract. It was probably the best they would see from this management team. It was almost word for word from the one we voted yes for at UA.

Well, if it isn't approved, my job is still gone when NW goes under. And the court could impose it anyway.

I would run to the company they hire to take my job and apply if I wanted to remain a ramper. My experience and familiarity with the product would make me stand above others applying. Granted, my pay would be less, but that is a given no matter what. Alternatively, if the pay was too low, I'd look for other work. Actually, considering what NW has been going through, I'd already have been looking for other work, not sitting around hoping for the best.

Does anyone know what the top out pay for a NWA ramper is now and what NWA wants it to drop to with the new contract proposal?

Talking with a couple of NW folks here (BOI), I think it was 50 mainline flights/week.

It was like close to $21.00 an hour before their recent pay cut....they took that 19% pay cut recently for a short term fix....
The new one was a little over $18.00 per hour....

20.20 was the pay before. 20.20 minus 19% is 16.36 20.20 minus 11.5% is 17.87. However with the proposed elimination of ramp, seniority, and shift differential the differance between the tentative agreement payscale and the 19 percent temporary was negligable. Subtract the insurance premium and higher medical/drug co-pays and it is considerably more.

Yes, it was better than minimum wage. Yes, it was better than unemployment.
