SA Switch Terminals At JFK

Wed Mar 08, 2006 9:43 am

Although I can't find any official release it seems that South African Airways has finally decided (or been allowed) to leave Delta's Terminal 3. According to http://www.jfkiat.com/dep.htm and delta.com (flight status for DL7796) South African's new home is Terminal 4. Well, at least today and tomorrow's flights are listed for T4 - and I hope that this is a permanent move!

According to the JFK website, it is now at Terminal 4.

Glad to hear about the move....Personally, I think most international airlines should move to Terminal 4 except BA....Consolidating terminals at JFK would make a lot of sense.

"Forced to leave" would be a more accurate descriptions. DL has kicked out most of the OAL tennants from T-2/3 in favor of their own expansion at JFK.

Forced to leave is right! Once SA announced its intentions to join the Star Alliance, DL moved quickly to give them the old "heave-ho". The move was originally scheduled to take place much later, but DL moved up the timetable, most likely to accommodate their expansion plans.
It's been swell, but the swelling has gone down.

BA isnt the only Intl Carrier that funded its own terminal...I dont think AF, LH JAL and KAL would like the idea of being forced from the terminal (T1) they built and maintain with their pooled finances.

I've always wondered about this...did these carriers actually fund the building of the terminal or are they simply tenants akin to the tenants in the IAT?

Terminal 1 was built and is leased/operated by TOGA. Terminal One Group Association: Air France, JAL, Lufthansa, and Korean.

In my opinion the nicest terminal at JFK.

Just for the record:

T2/3 Operated by DL

T4 Operated by JFK IAT (JFK Intl Air Terminal)

T5/6 jetBlue

T7 British

T8/9 AA
