Trip Report: Zurich-Malaga On Swissair

Mon Jun 05, 2000 5:06 am

Last thursday i went to Malaga on SR 168. After we had checked in in Terminal we were told that the aircraft will depart from Terminal B. We took the short walk to terminal and went straight into the new super-spacious lounge. The lounge was very big and had a TV and an internet room. Was very nice.

At 12:10 we boarded the A321 HB-IOB (City of Arau). My seat was 19A. At 12:30 we were pushed back and taxied among a CO DC-10, two Delta 767, a British Airways 767, and about 5 Swissair A320s. During taxui they showed the safety briefing on the drop down screens. I saw a 744 from Singapore Airlines landing on the other runway.

Once we had taken off the FA's immediately came around with the drink cart and offered some chocolate. After that lunch followed with two choices. One was lasagna, one was something Asian. After that FAs came around with the bread basket and asked if we would like some more. Then there was a drink service again but with a choice of four different after dinner teas. Time went so quickly and we were already in our descent and landed. But that was no landing the pilot smashed the aircraft into the runway for whatever reason. Other than that nothing uncommon happened.

I hope you like it.

I've done that same trip before a couple of times and found the flight very turbulent....especiially over the Pyrennes.

What was it like this time ?

Malaga is a nice airport also I should add.

Nice report!
I have been flying from DUS to AGP at least 15 times in the last fifteen years, using LTU, SR, SN and IB, and have to agree that SR is definitely something special!
They were the only airline serving hot, good-tasting food even in Economy on the flight. That wasn't the case with all the other airlines. Additonally, the flip-down monitors on the 321 were a nice feature.
BTW - hope you got a chance to do some spotting at AGP! The Persian Gulf VIP scene is really something unique here.

It's been a long time since you had service like that on 2 hour flights in the US. The nicest thing about the Malaga airport is the location. Just a short drive from my childhood summer home in La Herradura. Now unfortunately steam rolled by tourism and hotels. I prefer the north now, which even in summer can be rather quiet and relaxing.
