Interesting...their colors look good on just about anything.

So what does their fleet plan look like?

Boeing 737-800s to stay, considering they've just placed an order for 15 or so recently, correct?

How about their long-haul?
A340 to stay?
A330-200 to replace 767-300s or to supplement them?

Anyone have any info on this great carrier?

The shorthaul fleet will be built around the B737NG family, mainly the 737-800. The longhaul fleet will consist of 4 leased A330-200s, and a leased A340-200, until the A350s start to arrive from 2010.

Geez...I can't believe I had forgotten that they were the first customer to place the letter of intent and subsequently I suppose the first customer for the A350. Thanks for refreshing my mind!!

Right above the rego, there's a number. Seems to be 733. Most of the time with factory fresh Airbuses, this number is the C/N. According to airlinerlist, C/N 733 is an A330-203 intended for... UX, and its testreg is F-WWKU as in the picture.

I was going to ask if there was any improvments in the cabin. I guess there will be!

Hopefully the PTV's will put some pressure on Iberia to upgrade their economy class!

It looks okay, pure euro white paint scheme.

Are those GE CF6-8E's or PW 4000s ?

This A330-203 has GE engines. The '0' in the -203 part of the aircraft model indicates GE engines. A '2' (e.g. A330-222 or A330-223) would indicate PW.

The GE engines have the long, very pointed cones at the rear (see the Qatar A330 below), the PWs have shorter, less pointed visible cones (see the LTU A330 below).

A little off topic, so a RR powered would be A330-242?
A330-2(0)2 -GE
A330-2(2)2-PW
A330-2(4)2-RR
and the last digit is the airline ?

Boeing has airline codes correct? like most B767-333, 375 are -300s for AC

No, the MTOW version. 3 stands for 233 tons, 2 and 1 for less.

Yes, that is almost correct. Take for instance a QR A330.
A330-302. The 3 is the fuselage-variant (300), the 2 is the engine (GE), and the last is the weight, or submodel. Generally the higher the last number, the higher the gross weight.
Airbus don't have customer codes. An A340-600 made for LH, and a A340-600 made for VS are both called A340-642s. The HGW-600 will be called the -643 if I'm not mistaken.

AC's Boeing-code is 33, so their new 777s will be 777-333ERs and 233LRs. The 767-375 are ex-Canadian ones.

Airbus model numbers are decyphered as follows...
A3XX-ABC
Obviously, A3XX is the model - e.g. A320, A330, A340, A380, etc.
'A' denotes the series of that model - e.g. A340-200, A340-300, A340-500, A340-600, etc.
'B' denotes the engine manufacturer:

'0' = General Electric,

'1' = cfm International,

'2' = Pratt & Whitney,

'3' = International Aero Engines,

'4' = Rolls Royce,

'6' = Engine Alliance

'C' denotes the variant of that engine, and or the takeoff weight (usually linked to the engine option).

Examples:

A320-111 - an A320-100 fitted with the first variant of the cfm powerplant made available on the A320.

A300-605 - an A300-600 fitted with the fifth variant of the General Electric powerplant made available on the A300.

A330-342 - an A330-300 fitted with the second variant of the Rolls Royce powerplant available on the A330 model line up.

Note: ('5' is not used - not sure why, maybe the joint venture for the engines on A400M was assigned the '5'?).

'C' denotes the variant of that engine, e.g. on the A340-500 and A340-600. Both use the Rolls Royce Trent 500, but the A340-600 uses a different variant (different thrust output), so we have A340-541 and A340-642.

MyTravel, Thomas Cook and Monarch all fly A330-243s with high seating capacity for IT charter work. Emirates, bmi, Etihad also fly A330-243s but with far fewer seats.

Airbus's numbering system is more like that of a car manufacturer - everybody has the same model designation (badge on the trunk), but picks their own options (configures their own interior - seat numbers, etc.).

Whereas Boeing give each customer models with their own unique numbers, e.g '7X7-X36' for British Airways, '7X7-X38' for Qantas, '7X7-XH4' for Southwest.
7late7, A3latey, Sukhoi Superlate... what's going on?

It seems that Air Europa is set to become a great Spanish international airline in the future.

Quoting IberiaA319 (Reply 7):

Yup...they were great, but they were not showing Air Europa's cabin design but a generic Airbus' cabin mock up.

Anyway, after seeing those nice leather seats Air Europa has installed on the newer 737-800s I can imagine that the cabins on those A330s will be awesome.

It's great to see a Spanish airline growing like this.

Quoting AlitaliaMD11 (Reply 9):

Hopefully indeed, but I bet it won't happen. Not at least under IB's current management...sad but true.

In fact, IFE has been completely cancelled on short/medium flights and even the safety instructions are not shown on the screens anymore but performed manually by the cabin crew members. The new A319s/320s/321s that will soon join the fleet won't have LCD screens installed below the overhead bins.

This said, the A340s will be the only aircraft in Iberia's fleet featuring video screens...but those will be just the normal screens hanging from the central overhead compartments or installed on the bulkheads as happens now.

Wow, nice. I just love the A330-200, it's the most elegant aircraft I've seen so far. After the A330-200 my favourite goes to the 777!

Anyway, to get back on topic. Which routes will the A330-200 be flying for UX? Will it fly to the Caribbean too? I hope they will go to CUR in the future. We need more airlines at our airport!!! Just kidding, it's just wishful thinking I guess... I don't know how popular CUR is in Spain, but I don't thoml we are that well known in Spain even though CUR has a Spanish background and very well connections to South American neighbouring countries such as Venezuela and Colombia

I am guessing that the A330-200 will fly the routes that the 767-300 flew in the past. I bet when EC-JPF is delivered it will start flying first on routes to the Canary Islands and maybe a few Puente Aeros from MAD to BCN to get the crew familiar with the aircraft type.

Would be logical, but last thing I heard, the HGW is going to be designated A340-642X, not -643X.

That aircraft looks pretty cool, despite the Eurowhite. Though I wish they would have rather opted for Trents instead of the CF6-80E1, but then again, since they operate CFMs on the 737NGs and A340s, going GE makes sense.

Air Europa has one of the poorest liveries. Cheap red, cheap blue, white combination with a lack of imagination nor creativity...and a poor, unreadable logo (to me it's more 'oe' than 'ae'). The text 'Europe' is too high positioned on the tail fin. Pitty!

UX on a medium-term will have single-aisle aircraft from Boeing and an Airbus' long-haul fleet.

Quoting 767-332ER (Reply 1):

No. The current 340-200 has its days numbered on Air Europa metal.

Anyhow, last rumor inside UX tells A342 could continue on in order to serve PEK and to be flown by pilots as a post-training after simulator and prior to a definitive incorporation to the 330's fleet ...but this is just a rumour. No more.

The Air Europa's typicals one on long-haul: Cancún, Caracas, Punta Cana/Sto. Domingo, La Habana and Salvador (Brazil). And maybe PEK is included if this last destination is not, at the end, withdrawn.

Where's your imagination? Big grin Anyway, agree with you UX colors are not great but others are even more boring ...I'm thinking in the newest LAN's and Thai's liveries, for instance.

Finally, Air Europa has got a very good deal from Airbus as they was the first A350 launch customer. A very good movement because of the comprehensive discounts from Airbus and because to become in launch customer from a manufacturer is always important specially for a carrier which is not very known worldwide.

It's clear: Air Europa is consolidated like the Spain's second airline. But they are, still, far from the first Spanish airline: IB

If UX wants reinforce competition with IB, is key to get more slots in South America/intercontinental destinations and also the Air Europa's membership in SkyTeam.

Air Europa has one of the WORST/UGLIEST liveries hands down.

Why ugly? That logo is simply awful. Besides it takes some time to realize the blue letters don't read OE, but actually ae! Their livery makes the A330 look terrible. Well, it does that to the rest of their fleet as well.

Another key to reinforcing competition with IB would be for UX to also start entering into Central America. If UX enters SkyTeam, they can team up with CM from PTY and codeshare to places, where demand for nonstop service from MAD or BCN is rather low and at the same time, offer a different (maybe even better?) product in places such as GUA and SJO, along with PTY. IB has pretty much a monopoly here in Central America, and NM has little to no presence down here except at SJO and PTY even though I recall there is the posibility of them starting up flights to GUA and MGA, but as a more established airline than NM, UX could start fighting IB's monopoly in the region if they fly with their own metal and/or codeshare.
