Delta Mileage Accrual Without Flying

Thu Mar 09, 2006 4:06 am

Hey everyone, so I go to college in Atlanta, and my parents live in Oklahoma so for a reason i wont go into one weekend i had to drive to Oklahoma and then back to Atlanta. On the trip back my mother decided to drive with me to visit her sister in Raleigh, and then fly back to Oklahoma City from there. So i went onto Delta.com and booked her the one-way flight, and because im a FF member it automatically puts in my skymiles number and all that, and i changed all the names for the ticket but forgot to get rid of the skymiles number. I just figured that they wouldnt give me the miles cause i personally didnt fly the flight, but i checked online about my current flight to California and i see that i had indeed gotten those 2kish miles (1200 for the flight, 500 as a website booking bonus) for her flight from RDU-OKC.  eyepopping  Now i am wondering is this a normal occurance, or did the Delta computer just screw up and theyll audit my miles or something some later time in the future? Thanks much!  wave
(i am wondering cause i am going to be booking a friend a flight to ATL and i might want to get those miles from her flight as well  stirthepot  )

AFAIK miles go to whichever FF number is put in when you buy the tickets. I've bought tickets for my girlfriend on AA and used her FF number to give her the miles, and when I've traveled for business on DL my employer obviously buys the ticket but they use my SkyMiles number so I get the miles. I don't know a situation where you wouldn't get the miles if the flights were taken and your number was used.

this sounds like a glitch to me. delta.com will not let book a ticket for someone else while logged in to your skymiles number unless that person is traveling with you. you just got lucky I guess.

Thanks for your responses, now should i expect an audit sometime in the future? I mean how likely is it that someone in the corporate office will be browsing through accounts looking for discrepancies, or would this be done in the event of an award ticket redemption? According to the delta website

Quote:
Delta reserves the right to audit members' accounts at any time and without notice to ensure compliance with the SkyMiles program rules, Delta's contract of carriage, Delta's fare rules, and all other applicable Delta rules and regulations.
