Egyptian Carrier Air Cairo To Buy 4 A320's..

Fri Mar 10, 2006 12:16 am

Egypt-based low-cost carrier Air Cairo has signed a contract with Airbus for four A320s, becoming a new Middle East customer for the aircraft. The deal reaffirms a previously announced commitment by the airline to the Airbus A320 Family.

Air Cairo, which is majority owned by an Egyptian bank and Egyptair, plans to use the Airbus A320s mainly on routes to Europe and within the Middle East.

Air Cairo's A320s will seat up to 174 passengers in an all-economy layout, and be powered by CFM International CFM56-5 engines.

"With its passenger appeal and excellent economics, the Airbus A320 is the right size of aircraft for our services," says Air Cairo Chairman Kamal Zaki. "We will also benefit from commonality with the other Airbus A320 Family aircraft in the Egyptair fleet."

Air Cairo currently flies two Airbus A321s - leased from Egyptair - on charter flights to Europe, as well as within the Middle East.

MSYYZ, yes the order for 4 A320s was signed on 30/10/05 and has been on Airbus's website since. The aircraft will be delivered at 6 month intervals from September 2006.

Quoting MSYYZ (Thread starter):

At the moment MSC is only a charter airline, however I can see MS developing them as a LCC when the government liberalises the Egyptian aviation market.

Quoting MSYYZ (Thread starter):
Air Cairo currently flies two Airbus A321s - leased from Egyptair - on charter flights to Europe, as well as within the Middle East.

The airline returned a single A321 (SU-GBW) to Egyptair in November 2005, when they recieved an ex-Shorouk A320 (SU-GCL). Therefore they currently operate 1 A320 (SU-GCL) and 1 A321 (SU-GBV).

SU-GBV will return to MS in September 2006 when the first A320 is delivered from Airbus.

In addition the airline is planning to recieve ATRs (no version specified) this summer, which would be used to replace AND complement Egyptair's domestic network.

I hope they develop their website too.
