The New US Airways And The 737-400s

Fri Mar 10, 2006 3:43 am

Are the 737-400s going to stay with US Airways for now or are they going to be retired soon?

sadly US Airways retired a few 400's already that were scrapped. I saw one at OPA being scrapped and it was less than 15 years old....really stupid

Is a 737-300 type rating valid on the -400 series? Just wondering...curious if any 737-400's might make it into former HP territory.

The 400's will be staying.

In the current seat configuration, they hold a few more pax than the 320.

Many are EOW with video equipment, and have flown to SJU, STT, STX, CUN, MBJ, GCM and NAS before the Airbus. Some of these still see the 400. Even some stations like PBI were all 400's until this fall when the 321 came back.

KELPkid: 737 type rating can fly almost any type. If you have a 737-300 rating, you can get checked out to fly 737-300 to 737-900. Alaska pilots fly all 737's in the fleet except the -200. Only some additional training classes and sim time are required.

I've flown through PHL a number of times, but sadly, Ive never seen a 734 there, although I flew one on Aegean from FCO to ATH... Sad

At US, pilots are rated on both and fly both, but not during the same trip. Their entire trip will be either 300 or 400. They can go from one to the other, but will not (as a general rule) have 1 leg on a 400 and the next on a 300. The same is true for the F/A's, as they stay with the pilots. The HP side does not stay with the pilots, and this is a big negotiating point for integration.

The Airbus is a bit different, especially now that cabin crew is now down to minimums. Crews are now doing 319, 320 and 321 flying within the same trip. The cabin crew again stays wit the pilots, except for the extra on the 321.
